About this deal

The Lottery Winners have scored their first UK Number One album, beating Nines, Jessie Ware and The National to top spot. Barry says: Featuring some pretty huge collaborators (including 'Not not Stephen Fry'), the Lottery Winners' newest LP is a heartfelt message to both those suffering from anxiety and those dealing with the results of it. Full of beautifully written songs and calming interludes, ART is rich and deep and excellently portrays an important message. Lovely. The Lottery Winners roll to their first U.K. No. 1 with Anxiety Replacement Therapy (Modern Sky), their fifth studio album.

Sertraline’ explores Rylance being placed on medication to help his recovery. Sertraline is a commonly prescribed SSRI (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) used to help with depression and anxiety. It can be very effective, and Rylance has stated he’s found it helpful. He has said that, before taking Sertraline, he felt emotions strongly – either very happy or intensely sad. Now he holds the middle ground and has more balance and a better steering wheel. Manchester band The Lottery Winners have announced their forthcoming new album ‘Anxiety Replacement Therapy’, out on 28th April on Modern Sky Recordings, which will feature collaborations with Boy George, Frank Turner, and Shaun Ryder. He continued: “I’ve always told my story in our songs. If you’re telling your own story, it’s never going to be boring. When I started assembling these songs, I realised that every one I wrote was getting a bit lighter, feeling progressively less down. Writing songs really is my anxiety replacement therapy. Once I realised the acronym of ‘Anxiety Replacement Therapy’ is ART, I thought: ‘That’s genius, and it’ll look great on a T-shirt. Let’s have it!’”

I’ve always told my story in our songs. Let’s have it!’ The album features guest spots with their friend and previous collaborator Frank Turner on the moving and stirring ‘Letter To Myself’ , as well as Boy George who puts in a bravura performance on the summery ‘Let Me Down’ which recalls the emotional intensity of his work with Culture Club, and Shaun Ryder who brings his freewheeling brilliance on the already incisive austerity anthem ‘Money’, reprising his iconic “Call the cops!” refrain from Happy Mondays’ 1990 classic ‘Step On’. The following week, the album broke the all-time record of the biggest second week drop from No.1 in the UK album charts, when the album vacated the top 200 altogether selling 880 copies. The previous record was only set the week prior when Enter Shikari dropped to No.126 from the summit. After leading at the halfway mark, the British four-piece (Thom Rylance, Robert Lally, Katie Lloyd and Joe Singleton) completes a tight finish ahead of new albums by Nines, Jessie Ware and the National, the Official Charts Company reports.has been a spectacular year so far for The Lottery Winners. The last few months have seen them support Frank Turner, embark on a headline tour and release Anxiety Replacement Therapy – the follow-up album to 2021’s Something To Leave The House For, which placed at #11 in the album charts and saw the band garner support across the board at Radio 1, Radio 2, 6 Music, Radio X, Virgin, XS and Amazing Radio. The support for the Leigh four-piece has only widened since and the album’s been topping the charts all week long. The Lottery Winners’ new album Anxiety Replacement Therapy will feature guest appearances from Shaun Ryder, Frank Turner and Boy George. Speaking exclusively to Official Charts, The Lottery Winners say: “Anxiety Replacement Therapy is the UK’s Number 1 album on the Official Chart. It’s done, we’ve got the trophy! We end with ‘[STOP]’, the end of the therapy session, as the narrator utters, “We hope you have found some peace and clarity”. The writing of this album was Thom Rylance’s way of dealing with his anxiety, a replacement therapy, if you will. Along with Lloyd, Lally and Singleton, The Lottery Winners have created an album that does justice to his writing and arduous journey. Full of 80s influence with a modern twist, rarely has mental health been dissected, reconstituted and utilised for musical entertainment so well. Not an easy task. It treats the subject matter with the importance, sensitivity, and respect it deserves but doesn’t browbeat you. This is not about lecturing folk but inviting them to understand one person’s tale while listening to banging choons.
