For the love of books, please don’t tear up new books for these craft projects! Instead have a hunt around family members and friends, your local flea market, and even the recycling bin if you’re looking to find books that are worse for wear and in need of upcycling. I’ve only been here a day and already the place is getting to me. Old Books - Donate, Upcycle, Decorate! 35 Fun Things to Do with Old Books - Donate, Upcycle, Decorate!

I’d love to hear what you’ve done with your old books: did you decorate them? Donate them? Or turn them into gifts and wall art? This is a fab decor idea if your little one has torn a book to the point that sellotape won't help. The Trafalgar pub was also a place occupied by several original Rough Trade shop staff, Steve Montgomery, Jo Slee and Pete Walmsley amongst them. The squat was right next to the infamous ‘Apocalypse Hotel’. Our old friends from Scotland, Sandy Robertson and Alex Ferguson soon joined us in this communial squatted pub to the dismay of the Rough Trade workers. We were collectively known by them as the Scottish plague! Surely, I thought, there must be more than that. In the past, I had thought of the Bible as a rule book for life. Yes, we’re saved by grace, but I’d usually thought of righteous living in terms of following rules about what you could and couldn’t do as a Christian. (p. 197) Possessing heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual thoughts and feelings is not a matter of one's own choosing (53-54). Few reputable psychologists will argue today that one's sexual feelings are intentionally chosen (66-67). "So what's the answer?" asks Justin. "Why are some people attracted to the same sex? The truth is, we don't know for sure" (68). I agree. Mark Yarhouse himself states: "I agree with his conclusions on causation; that is, scientists do not know what causes sexual orientation, homosexual or heterosexual." Torn Book – Ecstatic Peace Library – 2018 Ripped And Torn Book – Ecstatic Peace Library – 2018

Growing up, I always assumed that Jesus wasn’t really breaking the Sabbath by healing someone, because perhaps God didn’t count supernatural healing as “work” on the same level with cooking or heavy lifting. If I had been Jesus, that’s the argument I would have made: “The Bible says not to work on the Sabbath. I’m not working; I’m healing. This isn’t work for me.” Even if a conservative pastor disagrees with Lee's conclusions regarding same-sex relationships, and most likely will, he or she will admittedly benefit from his perspective and life story. Justin's gift to the pastor is in the unveiling of the thoughts, feelings, and struggles of many regenerate believers sitting in the pews of their churches -- believers and followers of Christ the struggles of whom most pastors are entirely unaware.

Living transiently at the Fire Station I realised that I may as well live transiently abroad and got a cheap bus to Paris. The concept here was a promising one; the execution, not so much. I can appreciate writing about modern-day war. I'm certain that in a few decades there will be a plethora of books exploring the psychological, physical, and social implications of the war in the Middle East that we've now fruitlessly waged for more than a decade (many are on the market already). And writing about it in the YA genre when so many of our soldiers are barely out of high school is also not a bad idea. But Massey's writing is clunky and fraught with fussy details. There is little connection between paragraphs, and the characters felt so wooden, they became one person in my head. Justin Lee not only choose the most controversial topic of the day but his title didn’t provide much wiggle room--“rescuing the gospel from the Gays-vs.-Christian debate.” I mean if you’re rescuing the gospel from something or someone then everything about the book has got to be perfect, right? Justin starts with the war weary statistics that suggest most people identify the church as anti-gay. I’ve seen this study so many places I stopped counting. My question is always: Is that a result of the church bringing up the subject with provocation? Or is it because gay activist are constantly badgering the church and the church is responding? (pp. 1-4) He also takes a step further and says the church is hostile towards gays, The book also includes a vaguely supernatural element that didn't work at all and a focus on political conspiracy theories (with the required twist/revelation at the end) that was excruciating. I am interested in politics, and it made my brain glaze over. Brace the book with weights so that the spine is horizontal to the table. (You want to be able to work on the length of the spine.)

Books by Carian Cole (Author of Torn) - Goodreads

Necro – 1983 / Bob Marley & Augustus Pablo – Daddy Kool Records -1979 / Webcore – A Real Kavoom – 1986 / Brigandage – Hammersmith Clarendon – 1984 / Savage Republic – I.P.R – 1982 / Tribesman – Label Records – 1978 I had met Mark P and Shane MacGowan earlier and I had seen my first ever copies of Sniffin’ Glue on the Kings Road. Mark P said something like you should start your one fanzine. Standing firmly on this “moral foundation,” gay activists identified four major obstacles to achieving their strategic objective: (1) The churches considered them sinful; (2) The state criminalized their sex acts; (3) Doctors – mainly psychologists – thought they were crazy; and (4) The military feared they would be traitors to the nation. Lee then turns in chapter six to the subject of ex-gay theories and practices. This chapter was, for me at least, a game-changer on the subject. He eloquently and firmly stated all that I had been thinking about the subject over the last few months.Just don't forget which book you put it in or you'll have trouble finding it when you actually want to wear them! There’s also the first appearance of Step Forward / Faulty Products adverts appearing. Looking at this now I see a big break slipping through my fingers, Miles Copeland – who financed all this office space must’ve been looking Ripped & Torn over as a successor to Sniffin Glue. But I was too snotty to know better. This is an idea for starting with a basic book vase and decorating it for different seasons. How cute! The Astronauts – All The Madmen Records – 1983 – 1987 / Blood And Roses – Kamera Records – 1983 / Tribesman – Boa Records – 1979 / Peter Tosh – Intel HIM Diplo Records – 1973 / Crass – Aklam Hall – 1979

I moved to London with Skid Kid in the spring of 1977, and begun writing Ripped & Torn issue five, which was mainly written in a bed-sit in Willesden Green, then later that year, from issue seven, the fanzines were written at number 2 Bramley Road which was a squatted pub called the Trafalgar situated within a squatted community known as Frestonia. Again, Mark Yarhouse writes: "He feels strongly that the parent-child deficit theory that is tied to reparative theory / therapy is not a particularly accurate or helpful explanatory framework, despite its popularity in evangelical Christian circles. I tend to sympathize with him here."

So the Holy Spirit will show us when it’s OK to break the letter of the law and conveniently for Justin he’s done just this as it relates to monogamous Christ-centered gay relationships. Justin wraps it up with this, Vermilion had arrived in London, a writer and musician from San Francisco who had connections to the infamous City Lights bookshop and related journals from there. She had also got in with the Step Forward Records crowd – who used to help keep Ripped & Torn afloat with their advertising. If your books are in good condition and you’re just looking to move them on to a new home to free up space in yours, then this list of places that might want your old books should help. Local Libraries In Ripped & Torn five I had mentioned that Mark P has given up the editorship of Sniffin’ Glue, it folded shortly after.
