About this deal

Model section – the teacher close models a sentence that outlines clear writing features and techniques. Learn the Hooked on Books approach through a one day training course with creator, Jane Considine. You will spend the day learning the system amongst like-minded teachers and those within the teaching profession. You will be armed with the tools and techniques needed to implement the system immediately into your classroom. Spelling is taught through the Spelling Shed scheme. In each year group, children will be taught specific spelling rules which they will build on and use throughout the scheme. Children are challenged to ‘Deepen the Moment’ which requires them to independently draw upon previously learnt skills and apply them to their writing during that chunk. The Writing Rainbow is the essential teaching and learning resource for all schools that teach writing using Jane Considine’s systems. Within the tiers of the rainbow are contained the 27 lenses that form the construct for all writing, both narrative and non-fiction. It is perfect for displays and working walls.

The Write Stuff provides a balance of narrative, non-fiction and poetry writing throughout each term. In The Write Stuff approach to writing, the children explore high level, rich vocabulary and are taught grammar in context through different writing lenses on the Writing Rainbow. There are three lenses used to support children with their writing: The poster is perfect for working walls to add pupil, and author, examples of sentence types and structures, e.g. a complex/multi-clause sentence, a simile sentence or a feeling sentence. The poster is organised into three tiers to match the ‘Three Zones of Writing’; the FANTASTICs, the GRAMMARISTICs and the BOOMTASTICs. Many teachers find this poster particularly useful to provide guidance for greater depth. Pupils who are familiar with this poster find that it reminds them of the wealth of ways they can showcase flair and structures independently during their ‘Deepen the Moment’ aspects of writing.understand a range of punctuation and the effect it can have on the reader in both writing and reading.

Once children have followed their 'central character' through the story, they have the opportunity to plan and write independently using their previous learning to shape their creative stories. Unit Plans - The Training Space

Handwriting is taught discretely using the RWI scheme in Fairytale Phase and then through a cursive script model when appropriate. This is practised at least 3x weekly until children are able to join fluently. Children with additional needs have 1-1 support to aid fluency in writing. As a catalyst to speedy handwriting we encourage parents and carers to use the Letter-join resources at home and can arrange for free access to the Home Edition of Letter-join. write for a range of purposes including diary entries, persuasive letters, stories, poems and recounts to name but a few.
