About this deal

Safety advice when using emollients

Emollients are best applied after washing your hands, taking a bath or showering because this is when the skin most needs moisture. Lotions are good for hairy or damaged areas of skin (such as weeping eczema – where pus is seeping out of damaged areas of skin). This is because lotions are thin and spread easily, but they're not very moisturising. Sprays Paraffin-free emollients should be reserved for patients who are intolerant/unsuitable for paraffin containing emollients due to increased fire hazard risks despite appropriate counselling. As per Nottinghamshire Emollient Formulary. First line options are Epimax ointment, Zeroderm ® emulsifying ointment and Liquid & white soft paraffin ointment (Fifty:50). Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is unlikely to have any ill effects when used as directed. If unsure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Zeroderm Ointment is a rich emollient used to moisture and soften dry skin in eczema, dry cases of psoriasis and other dry skin conditions. It is suitable for all ages and may also be used as a skin cleanser or bath additive. Adverse reactions: Epimax ®ointment - First line option for severe dry skin as per Notts Emollient Formulary. Comparable to Hydromol ®, Zeroderm ®,Cetraben ®, and Epaderm ®. Uses: Adults and children*: The cream should be applied to the affected areas of skin as often as is required and smoothed gently into the skin following the direction of the hair growthAny other emollient with low percentage urea can be used for maintenance following the treatment phase.
