The manga really is a lot better than the anime version. From what I understand, this series was originally a novel that just got adapted into anime and manga for a wider audience. I vastly prefer the manga to the anime, for sure.

Adaptational Nice Guy: Downplayed, but the anime gives her a few Pet the Dog moments regarding Kouichi, as seen below, and also emphasizes her sense of responsibility to her class. While she does scapegoat Misaki for the deaths and demand an apology, Akazawa also takes some responsibility for what happened and apologizes to the entire class. She dies in Episode 1 from the 9th gradC class 3-3 curse, being "the death of April", the first one who died because of the curse. Mei was delivering a present at the Yomiyama Hospital's morgue, a doll, Mei referred to her as "her other half" during her first meeting with Kouichi Sakakibara and later as her twin sister.

Sanae Mizuno was a nurse at Yomiyama Hospital. She was a cheerful, friendly, sociable and peaceful person. Sanae was in charge of taking care of Kouichi when he was in the hospital. Also, she suggested various mystery authors to Kouichi to read. She was in good terms with Kouichi, as they used to meet casually.

One has to give it to her, she decided not to kill Kouichi when given a chance, because she thought he wasn't the dead one and Izumi would be sad if he died. The Glasses Gotta Go: In the anime, she takes off her glasses when she's working as a teacher. In the manga, this is inverted and she only wears her glasses when she's a teacher instead. Adaptational Hairstyle Change: In the anime, he has a short haircut with bangs. In the manga, his hair is even shorter and he has no bangs. Mei seemed indifferent to Akazawa and vice versa in the beginning. However throughout the series, whenever Misaki is around Kouichi, Izumi glares at her in a spiteful manner, especially after many of the death scenes. It all comes to a head in episode 10 when Izumi demands that Mei apologizes for her perceived part of the calamity, despite Kouichi's, Teshigawara's, and Mochizuki's protests.
