About this deal

They used to only be popular with gardeners and landscapers but have started gaining in popularity with everyone who wants to keep their garden and artificial grass looking great. You will probably find lots of rubber brushes which are labelled as “ideal” for artificial grass. We have found these to be no good and overall as they can’t get out dirt and dust which has gone into the fibres of the turf. Due to this irrational hatred of Autumn leaves, I have long since done away with the effective, but oh-so-slow, garden rake method of dealing with them, and have owned my fair share of leaf vacuums over the years and just reviewed my favourite petrol leaf vacuum and recently my favourite electric leaf vacuum and mulcher so thought why not expand and put together an overall best available 🙂 Bear in mind that replacing real grass with artificial grass severely disrupts soil ecology - the long-term effects of which are still unknown.

Whether a product is a vacuum only, or a vacuum blower, the basic way in which it functions is pretty much the same. Power will come from either a small petrol engine or an electric motor, and that power will allow the built-in fan/impeller to create suction and pull the leaves up a chute. The leaves are then shredded by the fan and then expelled out of another port and into a collection bag. With its 159cc petrol engine running at 3400rpm, and creating an air suction velocity of 26 m/s, you’ll have no problem clearing huge piles of leaves from your home, and you won’t have to worry too much if the odd small twig finds its way in there either. Before we go into detail this is a handy video: As a landscaper, power brooms are one of the best investments i have made. Sweeping is a chore and even with a good brush sweeping artificial grass can take hours. Power brooms take 10% of the time, and energy and 1% of the patience. The Sherpa is a powerful and effective leaf vacuum and blower, and great for larger properties. I just wish that they’d put some larger wheels on it and made them pneumatic, and I would have given it 5 stars instead of 4. Pros: When it comes to power, corded electric leaf vacuum models can vary quite a lot, but the more powerful products have electric motors around 3000 watts. This enables them to produce a decent air velocity, but still not up to that of a petrol-powered machine. Whereas the Hyundai vacuum is a handheld option, the Vacmaster Artificial Grass Vacuum Cleaner is more like a conventional floor vacuum. Another peculiarity of this product is that it is intended specifically for cleaning artificial grass.

If you find that some type of stain or substance is difficult to remove, use a little bit of dish soap and water. Bear in mind, too, that even many current owners of artificial grass regret their decision. According to a recent survey by the insurance firm Churchill, nearly three in five respondents (58%) said they wanted to remove their artificial grass, and almost half (44%) said they were concerned about the environmental consequences. A lightweight, yet solid, machine that performs well and will be fine for the average person who wants something inexpensive and reliable. If you have trees that drop very large and stalky leaves, you might want to pay more for something more powerful, but most folks will be very happy with the Hyundai HYBV3000E. Pros: If you are planning to install it, do make sure you read our advice on how to make artificial grass less environmentally damaging. The cord needs to be long enough to allow you room to maneuver around your lawn or garden without having to change outlets constantly. Depending on how big your artificial grass area is, it may be worth investing in a commercial-grade product which can take on large area. If you have just an average garden and want to save money then a basic brush should suffice. It can also prevent it from becoming a habitat for pests and insects that could cause damage over time.

Well, I’ve read a lot of these comments and complaints, and I think with at least some of them, it comes down to their expectations being too high. They see the performance of a leaf blower as it moves a ton of leaves across the lawn and think a leaf vacuum will be similar. They’re not. If you only have a small amount of artificial grass then we recommend just going for a brush. For larger areas a power broom would be best! Multi function The Handheld Sweeper, 52cc Gas Power Sweeping Broom has more power than the electric version and is more versatile all round. It will require petrol and oil to run it but small engines like this are very fuel efficient. The best vacuums for artificial grass Just like vacuuming carpet, over vacuuming can cause wear over time. Essentially, vacuuming could lead to the need to replace your artificial grass sooner than necessary. So what other option is there for removing large amounts of debris from an artificial lawn? Unlike a living yard, you can’t use a mower to mulch the leaves that accumulate on an artificial lawn. You can use a leaf blower on an artificial lawn to push debris toward one area and then rake it up. The quality of the artificial lawn stays in better shape longer if a blower is used over a vacuum. If you want to retain the shape and sheen of your artificial grass, using the blower is the way to clean the debris from your turf efficiently. Because of the environmental implications and sustainability concerns associated with artificial grass, we don't have any Best Buys and have no plans to test any more artificial grass products.

Artificial grass is controversial. Once seen as a tempting alternative to keep your garden looking great all year round, it's since been engulfed by concerns about its environmental impact. There are even calls for it to be banned altogether. Artificial grass is often made of virgin plastic and lasts 10-15 years. Not only does its manufacture require significant energy and resources, but when it's time to replace it, the plastic often can't be recycled. This means that most is destined for landfill or incineration. Synthetic grass also brings the potential hazard of loose fibres, adding to microplastic pollution. This is especially true if you have dogs which can ruin artificial grass if left to themselves. Find out more about how to look after artificial grass if you have dogs. Its natural bristles are tough enough to be effective on hard ground or in gardens – they’ll make a bad situation feel like none of your powdered sugar spilled at all. Nobody can really answer this question for someone else, it all comes down to personal needs and preference, but here’s a little leaf vacuum pros and cons for you where we point out the best and worst bits about owning each type. Hopefully, you’ll find it easier to make up your mind after reading about them. Electric leaf vacuums Finally, while real grass plays a role in mitigating climate change by converting carbon dioxide into oxygen, artificial grass simply can't do this. How to make artificial grass less environmentally damaging Ok, if you look online, you’ll see that while some people are extremely happy with their leaf vacuums, others are more than a little disappointed, but why is this?
