Werewords A surprising direction for the Werewolf series, but it works This word game is a little like classic werewolf, but with a more esoteric goal. Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game Cylons to the brig! Whoever is playing William Adama better hope they have good leadership skills.

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong by Grey Fox Games - Kickstarter

Players take it in turns to add to a piece of art, gradually building up a picture of a secret answer pen-stroke by pen-stroke. The catch is that one of them must play along, but has no idea what they’re supposed to be drawing. The visual element of the game encourages players to think outside the box and creates extra space for ridiculous misunderstandings. The game ends after the third round of the investigation phase whether the murderer has been caught. The following are the options of what will happen at the end of the game. Closing the File One of the few games in the genre to indulge in some good, old-fashioned dice-rolling, Bang! The Dice Game puts players in the shoes (or boots, I should say) of a bunch of rootin’ tootin’ cowboys ready to duel. This bite-sized variant features less bloodthirsty lycanthropes than the original, as the werewolves’ aim is simply to win by lying low. During the night phase, players take it in turns to perform actions, depending on their roles. A seer has the power to look at someone’s role card, but other characters like the robber and troublemaker can switch these around during the night. Mechanically, nothing changes in the game. The Forensic Scientist still must truthfully respond to attempts to solve the crime. They must still remain silent. A Fake Artist Goes to New York A party game of deceitful drawings There may not be much in the box, but Fake Artist is infinitely replayable.

Inside Man, please open your eyes and point to any 1 player to have their Badge token removed". The Forensic Scientist should make a mental note of the player selected then say, "Inside Man, close your eyes", and verify that they have done so. As the game master, the Forensic Scientist holds the solution to the crime. They are responsible for assisting the Investigators in identifying the "Key Evidence" and "Means of Murder". The next round then begins. However, this time the Forensic Scientist draws just one Scene tile and replaces one of the existing Scene tiles and its marker on a new piece of evidence. I’m a bit of a Resistance apologist. It was one of the first modern board games I really enjoyed. I’ve played it easily over 100 times and got to the point where people were attempting triple-bluffs with two different friend groups. I kind of burned out on the game after a while, through sheer over-play, but I still think it’s brilliant. It’s one of the most elegant games ever made. It takes the social deduction idea , distills it down to its essential parts, and somehow emerges as something deeper and more compelling than its peers. If the Accomplice and Witness are in the game, there are further steps to take for them, but we don’t need to go into those details. Just know that they’re fun to have in the game as well. If you were the Murderer, which two cards would you choose (1 blue, 1 red)?Investigators must collaborate and use their wits, their hunches, and their keen deductive insight to correctly identify the means of murder and the key evidence to convict the killer. All players other than the Forensic Scientist then receive 8 cards – 4 Means cards (blue) related to the way the murder was committed and 4 Clue cards (red) indicating key evidence left behind. Each player places the cards face up in front of them so all players can see the cards. Will the Investigators be perceptive enough to successfully solve the crime or will the culprit(s) accomplish the perfect crime and get away with murder?

But the formula itself is solid and Deception is genuinely fun. This review seems harsh because Deception so easily draws comparisons to three of the best games ever made. But trying to decipher vague clues with a group of people is enjoyable. Seeing what choices the forensic scientist could have made with each clue card adds another layer of thought to the guesswork. If you group loves this style of game Deception is going to be a solid addition to your collection. Exploring some of the optional rules and variants in the rulebook might be necessary to make the game work best for you, but I’m glad the options are there. It’s not a Resistance killer or even a Mysterium killer, but I can’t deny it’s a good time. The theme might raise a few eyebrows, especially coming from one of the makers of the much-maligned Cards Against Humanity, but, while it’s hardly profound satire, Secret Hitler handles its subject matter very successfully. I love a good murder mystery almost as much as I love any game where you get to deceive people, so I was incredibly keen to get my hands on Deception: Murder in Hong Kong! The Game That’s right, there’s a whole lot of cards in the box, and they’re all nicely designed. The tiles and tokens look really good, too, and are all made of really strong stuff, so they will easily be able to last many a high-energy game. The wooden bullet markers are a nice touch, as well.
