About this deal

Michelle Powell has spent over a decade working in the specialty coffee industry. That journey has seen her train with such hallmark establishments as Blue Bottle and Four Barrel. She has also competed multiple times in the Southwest Regional Barista Competition. Having made tens of thousands of lattes, cappuccinos, and macchiatos, Michelle is the cornerstone of our espresso machine testing and evaluation. You don't need another grinder. You don't need a tamper. You don't even need to do much cleaning (aside from regular maintenance). Gaggia Anima Prestige is a state-of-the-art super-automatic espresso machine. Designed and made by Gaggia in Italy, the machine features a stainless steel exterior body that signifies elegance. It will revolutionize how you make espresso and cappuccino at home, providing you with a perfect cup in just a few seconds from your directing it to make your coffee. But for pure espresso drinkers? No matter how much I messed with the settings, I always got something that was just shy of amazing. Appearance

If you’re strictly a cappuccino or latte drinker, the Gaggia Anima will do just fine. Max out the dose size and water temp and go fine with your grind, and you’ll get something that’s properly extracted. It may be a touch bitter, but you’re going to be mixing it with milk, which will mask any imperfections. In addition, the Magenta Prestige’s two grind cycles make it possible to brew two cups simultaneously without over-extraction, ensuring that both cups have the same strength. The result is a neatly built coffee machine that’s exceptionally straightforward to use. Both the Espresso and Espresso Lungo options have a default coffee strength and pre-set volume, although you can override both to suit your tastes. Gaggia Anima – Espresso Quality My Gaggia Anima Prestige review wouldn’t be complete without a comparison section. So, let’s put this machine head-to-head with a couple of other affordable super automatic espresso machines. Gaggia Anima Prestige vs Magenta Prestige Once your coffee has been poured into your cup, the machine will ask if you want the cleaning cycle to begin. It is important to clean the machine after you’ve used it to ensure that the circuits are in good shape and continue to provide you with quality coffee. If money is not an issue and you are looking for a machine that makes the whole brewing process easier, then the Gaggia Anima Prestige is it. For those who don’t want to spend so much upfront, Gaggia Anima has lower-end models that you can opt for. The Carezza and Viva are the more affordable models with a pressurized basket and Panarello wand instead of a commercial-style steam wand.

Gaggia RI8762/18 Anima Prestige Automatic Bean to Cup Coffee

When brewing espresso with a fully automatic machine, I like to max out the coffee strength setting. With the Gaggia Anima Prestige, that means making sure all five coffee beans are highlighted on the display. TheSaecoPicoBaristois slightly more expensive than the Anima Prestige. But not so much more expensive that you wouldn’t compare them side-by-side.There are a lot of reasons to like the Magneta Prestige coffee maker. Its compact design stops it from taking up prohibitive amounts of counter space, making it ideal for apartment-dwellers and small kitchens. We found the Calphalon Temp IQ to be the easiest to clean of the semi-automatic machines we tested. The steam wand and portafilter are easy to wipe out and clean after each use, and the descaling process is relatively painless. Though it can't compete with the cleaning convenience of a capsule or super-automatic machine, we think the better espresso is well worth the additional cleaning effort. OK, so you’d be forgiven for thinking I was talking trash about the Anima Prestige’s user interface earlier, but I was just poking fun. Actually, the large display and clearly labeled buttons make it really easy to operate the machine. Plus, the user interface is very intuitive, and navigating the menus is a breeze.

For those that say there are other more economical espresso machines out there, they need to try the Gaggia Anima Prestige. Most entry-level machines don’t match the quality of coffee it makes and the features it offers. It's a tad louder than the Brera, I think, but it's still fairly quiet – you're not going to wake the street up. Incredibly simple to use:The other benefit of the brew group being removable is that you can buy a replacement if something goes wrong with it in a fewyears’ time. While they aren’t cheap, it’s a lot cheaper than buying an entirely new machine.
