About this deal

A few months ago, one of my facebook friends posted about this thing called 'The Last 90 Days'. I read up on it, and I was inspired to make changes to my life and not wait until the first of the year, but do it now. I started getting up earlier, drinking more water, going to the gym more, and most importantly, I started making a gratitude list daily. It really changed my perspective on a lot of things. Since then, I started following Rachel Hollis. I love her personality and she has great tips and advice. When I got the opportunity to read this book early, I jumped on it. Hollis’s vow of authenticity doesn’t seem to extend very far into difficult political conversations, which isn’t surprising for someone with a popular lifestyle brand to maintain. In one YouTube video from August 2016, she referenced the “terrifying” state of politics in the US — just before saying, “I’m not going to talk about my beliefs or my political affiliation, because I know that we’re gonna some of us disagree, and I’d rather not know if you disagree.” Religious pluralism is basically the idea that all roads lead to God. There’s no right way or wrong way to think about God, and my religion is no better or more right than yours. This is a message Hollis shouts from the rooftops. The only problem? It’s a narrow religious assertion. It’s a belief about God that claims to trump all others. What do I mean? If you claim that all religions are equally valid and true, then you’re excluding all religions that don’t affirm that view.

once you understand that you are the one in control, you'll get up and try again. And you'll keep going until being in control feels more natural than being out of control.❞ You must choose to be happy, grateful and fulfilled. If you make that choice every single day, regardless of where you are or what’s happening, you will be happy.” God has perfect timing. Maybe that goal wasn’t ever meant to be yours. Maybe you have to walk through this space that you’re in to be ready for that. Nothing is wasted. Every single moment is preparing you for the next.”As a single mom trying to make my own dreams come true while working 8-5, I found this book and her story hard to relate to. I just can’t listen to her talk about her 5 minutes of financial challenges because the reality is she built her business with her 6-figure corporate husband paying all the bills and supporting their lifestyle. Each chapter of the book is a different lie that the author at one time believed: something else will make me happy, I'm not good enough, I'll start tomorrow, etc... Through her own stories, she shares how she came to learn the truth and offers action steps on how you can break away from the lies, too. While Hollis now lives a pretty charmed life (she's married to someone with Hollywood connections and has an awfully cushy existence), she remains relatable and, dare I say, down-to-earth. She's not always had an easy life and has clearly worked her butt off to get where is; her wisdom is hard-earned.

Logically, this sentiment can’t be true—because all religions contradict each other at some point. And Christianity, by nature, is exclusive. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6). Religious pluralism is a dogmatic religious belief—and it contradicts Christianity. Lie 4: Judgment Is Bad I've laughed, cried and contemplated. There are self-help books, and then there's 'Girl, Wash Your Face'! Yet another story of a woman achieving her dreams only because her husband was able to financially support them and any income from her wasn’t required. By her own admission, she worked because she wanted to, not because she had to. I spoke with more than a dozen women for this story — friends of friends, people who responded on social media, and at least two women I spotted out in the wild — to try to understand exactly what it is about Hollis’s gospel that appeals to them.

New books summaries

Rachel Hollis' brutal honesty speaks volumes about how the potential power of women to rise and be the person they aspire to become are overshadowed by varying degrees of lies--put up as excuses. Though her words can't all be gospel but I'll definitely consult this book from time to time especially because it is an authentic story of a woman who needed some growing up in all aspects of life. She made mistakes but she did do something out of her missed steps. Her story mirrored at least every one's inner determination to rise anew every day and face life head-and-shoulder on.

Full Book Name: Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies about Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be Another popular review called the book “sanctimonious twaddle” and asked what Hollis could possibly offer women who have been through real hardships: “What about women that have lost a child? Those that have been beaten, verbally abused, raped, or shot at? What about those forging their way through life in male-dominated careers instead of party planning?” A third reviewer says that Hollis “lost me when she spends an hour talking about her super emotionally abusive relationship and then reveals that the abuser is now her husband.” In good faith, I think that what Hollis (who declined to be interviewed for this story) means here is some “I am the captain of my soul,” “Invictus” stuff: I have to make the decision to be happy; no one else is going to do that for me. And to a degree, that makes sense. Your mental, physical, and emotional well-being are influenced by your mindset. But mindset isn’t the only thing that influences your well-being. Rachel's truth is poignant, it is devastating, and it is healing. Her honesty is admirable. And she reminds us that we are the captains of our own ship. What we do and where we go is our choice. It's up to us. How do you keep taking babies to see parents who aren’t parenting? How do you give up half a Saturday to wait in a McDonald’s playland for addicts who may or may not show up, then hand over an innocent baby and watch them erase whatever progress you’ve made with their daughter? How do you do all of this KNOWING that they’ll be reunited at the end of it all, and there’s nothing you can do about it? If you’re like me, you find a way. But at night, when no one is looking, you drink, and when it gets really bad, you take a Xanax, too.Someone can hold to false premises and still land on truth from time to time. Should we take care of our bodies and our hearts? Should we set goals and work hard to accomplish them? Of course. But as Christians, the why and the how are crucial. So, Book Rachel doesn’t care what I say, but Social media Rachel says I should write a review because “it means so much” to all the people that work hard to create content? But Live Stream Rachel doesn’t care either? So, which is it? Does my review only matter if you like what I have to say? Does In Real Life Rachel read them or not? Who is Rachel Hollis really and does she care or not?
