Ysl Kouros was created by Pierre Bourdon in 1981. He was also one of the few Edmond Roudnitska’s students who inherited his inherited rigorous perfume technique of creating perfumes as works of art. Today, Ysl is owned by L’Oreal with over 200 boutiques opened worldwide. Ready-to-wear products, shoes, leather goods, and jewelry is their product range. I respect that this is unique and bold. I can detect a hint of carnation, oakmoss, honey, and leather under this eucalyptus and cat pee smell which I assume is the civet. I don’t know civet, is this what it’s normally like?It is animalic and musky, with everything else put into it just to make it actually wearable, it has been clearly thought around civet, musk and oakmoss, all the other notes are meant to complement and round those three. The feeling Kouros gives is the one of a man who washed using a lard based soap bar, dried his body and then put on some body powder. So a both clean and animalistic smell, both elegant and bold... not for everybody.

This fragrance is my most worn fragrance for 20 years. He's been with me since I was a kid in my eighties. Deeply rooted in my limbic system since it was very popular at that time. For my childhood nose, he was also the epitome of perfume for a man. Kouros Silver – a woody aromatic fragrance released in 2015. The main notes include Sage, Amber, and Apple. The lasting power is 8 – 10 hours with great projection.
