About this deal

L - Tuner type - Both TVs have digital terrestrial tuners. Other letters indicate things like satellite tuners, or tuners for specific regions. Some TVs are sold in regions with dual tuners.

Standard is the go-to recommendation for most content, and works fine with studio broadcasts and sports coverage, but Vivid, often reviled because of its heavy saturation, is a real crowdpleaser too, particularly with superhero movies that use a denuded colour palette and animations designed to pop.Having already tested LG’s 65in GX and 48in CX models, we knew what to expect from this 55in CX: a superlative performance that isn’t vastly different from last year’s C9 but does improve upon it in a few important ways. This is why when you read online people refer to the TVs as only C1, because the other differences are not important. The only important bit is the model range and model year. It's not possible to buy a TV with a different region from the UK, for instance...unless you're importing it from abroad. Switching to standard HDR10 with The Hunt from the Apple TV app, and while there’s the inevitable slight drop in crispness when compared to watching a disc, the picture is still undeniably lovely. The stand is quite wide, but the LG CX’s overall footprint is a fair bit narrower than that of sets such as the Sony A8, which has feet at either end of its bottom panel. The CX does sit rather low, though, which could be an issue if you plan to place a soundbar in front of it.

Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits) In terms of gaming, LG has partnered with NVIDIA and AMD to make LG OLED TVs the only G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync™ Premium certified TVs available to date. There is also the new Game Optimiser set up menu and there are four HDMI 2.1 (40Gbps) inputs with support for 4K/120, HFR (High Frame Rate), VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and eARC. We also have HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) settings available for HDR gaming. So all in all, the C1 is an excellent choice for gaming, with an input lag measured at 12.5ms in 4K/60 and 9.5ms using the Prevent Input Delay setting (make sure you have Just Scan on in the aspect ratio menu). Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output The LG OLED55C1 is a superb gaming TV with excellent contrast and dynamic range mixed with very good HDR. The C1 is compatible with VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) and has an HGiG (HDR Gaming Interest Group) setting under the Dynamic Tone Mapping sub-menu in the Game Optimiser mode. There is also support for G-Sync validated by NVIDIA and on top of that, there is support for AMD’s FreeSync VRR.

Percentage luminance drop at 35 degree horizontal angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output Tuner regional difference. In this case single for several Western European countries. (6 is also for different countries in Europe, but still includes UK, also single). The LG C1 didn't disappoint at launch in any way –and even a year on it's a stellar OLED option to consider. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits)

And finally, if you're looking for the absolute best-of-best OLED quality then take a look at the LG G2 instead (2022's flagship). It's a step up in the range and in evolution, delivering the brightest OLED image to date. It's not nearly as cheap though! As is the norm for LG, HDR10+ isn’t supported by the CX, but standard HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision all are. The company’s 2020 OLEDs also all support the new Dolby Vision IQ format, which tailors the Dolby Vision performance to the ambient light in the room. It’s not as transformative a feature as Dolby would have you believe but, while we were initially underwhelmed when testing the LG GX, we can now see the benefits of Dolby Vision IQ in terms of some extra detail being revealed in dark scenes when there’s a fair bit of light in the room. In addition to the new webOS, LG has also revised its menus, making them aesthetically a little more appealing. LG C1: Verdict

Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits)

While the LG G1, Sony A90J and Panasonic JZ1500 can go that little bit brighter [...], in isolation the C1 gets very close to that level at a lower entry point.. While the C1 generally over delivers on the video front, its audio performance is less stand-out. The screen has volume – output is rated at 40W cumulative - and boasts Dolby Atmos decoding, but the physical speaker configuration is limited by the set’s cabinet design.
