About this deal

LG Thinq App on compatible Android devices (Android 5.0+) and iOS devices (iOS 11+). Device must be in range, on the same Wi-Fi network as the TV. resolution: OLED TVs are 4K too. That said, the C2 is still a sonic upgrade on last year’s LG OLEDs, providing a more authentic sound with better projected voices. It’s generally smoother and cleaner but with more punch and dynamism than before, and there’s more weight, too, but with convincing integration with the rest of the delivery rather than a lump of bass that emerges from nowhere as it does with many TVs. Voice Control features may not be available in all languages and dialects. Refer to source material. ThinQ TV control voice commands are supported. The smart TV platform hasn’t been given a huge overhaul compared to its predecessor, but it does come with some new, family-friendly features that make it easier for everyone in the household to enjoy a personalized experience. You get LG’s Magic Remote included in the box, which comes with a built-in microphone that allows you to search for content with your voice. There are buttons to take you straight to Netflix, Disney Plus, Prime Video, and Rakuten TV, and buttons to summon Google Assistant and Alexa.

As with the new LG G2 OLED, the C2 model comes with the company’s webOS smart TV platform - and now thanks to a new naming convention that’s based on its year of release, it’s now referred to as webOS 22 (the previous version was called webOS 6.0). Ghostbusters: Afterlife looked stunning with excellent dynamic range performance and shadow detail retrieval adding real depth and realism to the image quality. It doesn’t quite go as bright in the highlights as the G2 is capable of showing, but you really would only notice this in comparison. CES Innovation Awards are based upon descriptive materials submitted to the judges. CTA did not verify the accuracy of any submission or of any claims made and did not test the item to which the award was given. It’s worth noting that the two smaller screen sizes don’t get the boost in brightness seen on the 55in model and above. This is due to the density of the pixels in relation to the resolution of their panels being so high that the smaller screens can’t take advantage of LG’s Brightness Booster technology. LG has spent the last few years improving the motion handling of its OLED TVs, and this area of the C2’s performance is excellent. The TruMotion menu offers five different options: Off, Cinematic Movement, Natural, Smooth Movement, and User Selection. Anyone particularly susceptible to the effects of motion smoothing on film-based content will want to turn TruMotion off (or select Filmmaker Mode), but others will enjoy experimenting with the different settings.

Motion is also very good with no induced judder with 24fps material and excellent 5:5 pulldown without any issues. Broadcast 50Hz content is also clean with no signs of frame skipping or unwanted artefacts with TruMotion switched off. Adding in TruMotion at higher levels did introduce artefacts with trailing edges and image break up effects seen with fast moving objects. The difference appears to be a heavier stand for the OLED65C26LD, plus that model only comes in 77-, 65- and 55-inch sizes. Design Dolby Vision™: LG OLED TVs are compatible with HDR formats including Dolby Vision, which enhances your picture frame by frame.Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) The LG C2 is equally as impressive when it comes to HDR, and while not as bright as the G2, it can hit 754cd/m2 on a 10% window and 174cd/m2 on a full-field pattern in the Standard mode, and 756cd/m2 on a 10% window and 164cd/m2 on a full-field pattern in the more accurate Filmmaker mode. Although a smidge brighter than last year’s C1, it’s not a huge difference.

Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying a live scene and white square taking up 10% of the screen (measured in Nits) Also new is Dolby Vision IQ with Precision Detail. Dolby Vision IQ automatically adapts the image for bright and dark rooms, and this enhanced version squeezes more sharpness and detail from both brighter and darker areas of the image. LG says this is possible thanks to its α9 Gen 5 AI processor, and it’s the only TV manufacturer to offer it at the time of review. Other HDR formats covered are HDR10 and HLG, with LG opting not to include HDR10+ to optimise video from the likes of Prime Video and Hulu.Switching to Filmmaker mode still leaves the energy saving “Eco” setting at Auto. This adjusts the brightness of the image depending on the amount of ambient light, and unfortunately, turning it off isn’t intuitive. You’ll need to go to All Settings – General – OLED Care – Device Self Care – Energy Saving – Energy Saving Step, and switch this setting from Auto to Off. You’re now free to set the overall brightness of the Filmmaker mode to your personal preference.
