You said you want to connect the Amp to the computer, that implies that the amp will be feeding music into the computer, where you will presumably record it. Is that really what you are going to do? Out of the Amp and into the Computer? Could be a BD player with onboard decoding, and a SACD/DVD-A transport, both connecting to an older pre-HD audio decoding amp. It's superb balance of attitude and refinement. If the rest of your system is up to scratch, the MX-VYNL is worth the investment. I've found that the vast majority of hard splitters are brass. The higher conductive metals are too soft and expensive in general. The LATs that I use are of the highest copper content I've found so far. I'm not advocating hard splitters they're just my personal preference so far. YMMV.

I was originally looking high and low for a stereo/mono switch to put into 1 of the 2 existing feed chains, which would have been fine, but I couldn't find one. If you have other splitters preceding the "combiner" then they too will be short circuited left to right.simply because there is zero isolation between any of the connectors on a simple splitter. We've continuously been impressed with Rega's excellent (and rather affordable) Fono MM range, so it was something of a relief that the latest model, which featured a brand-spanking new look, didn't sacrifice style for sound. I think my trouble may be because I am trying to use one or more of the adaptors/leads the wrong way round, because it became apparent when wiring it up that I had misplanned 2 male/female connection points. However I never manage to understand when you can and cannot treat audio components as reversible.

Most often the computer is the source, it play music into the amp. That is sound comes OUT of the computer and goes INTO the amp. Another oldie but still a goodie, the Gram Amp 2 holds its own nearly a decade after first coming on the scene. All three are simply wired together so the two outputs are a dead short circuit. Which is why if fails miserably if you use it in reverse as a combiner. If you connect two outputs to the splitter then you short circuit the pair of them. Likely both your Receiver and Computer are STEREO. In this case why would you want to run mono? Which is what you are implying. You are implying fanning one source connector out into two mono connections? Why? I doubt I would venture down the road of buying resistors and trying to 'engineer' my own solution ... but if that is the only way, then I suppose I will have to.
