About this deal

For most of us, that's all you really need to do. But if you want to give your PS5 a deeper clean, here's how to do it. How to clean the inside of your PS5 While it is relatively easy to remove any dust from your PS5, preventing it from building up in the first place is a good idea. To this end Sony recommends keeping the console in a well-ventilated location, and not to operate in a closed cabinet or in a tightly enclosed space. Now, for the most important bit. you need to get your vacuum or brush INSIDE the console housing, into the hole vacated by the fan unit. Lift the corner of the top faceplate, the one with a PlayStation logo. Lift it with your plastic pry or your nails until it “unclips” from the case. Now, we’re going to clean the air intake from dust. This is where the air goes in and out of your console, so cleaning it is paramount. That's a good question, and depending on who you ask the answers vary from "monthly" to "never". It really depends on where your PS5 is, so for example if you're in a room with lots of long fibres in carpeting, rugs and so on, or if it's a smoking household, or if you have pets, or if you're really lazy and don't do the normal hoovering and dusting very often, then you're going to want to clean your console more frequently than if you live in a Zen-like space with no furniture and Italian marble floors. Once you have the fan secured, simply start using your compressed air on the fan. For a better result, you can ask a friend or anyone around your household to vacuum the dust that will come out of the fan as soon as it leaves your console. This’ll ensure that you won’t leave a dusty table or floor behind.

The first part is taking out the stand, but you only need to follow it if you put the PS5’s stand vertically. You can skip it if you’re not using one or if the stand is put horizontally. Now it's time for some digital dusting. Look for any obvious dust deposits and remove them either with a very gentle vacuuming, or with a blast of canned air (if you don't have a can of air, it's a brilliant thing to have around: I use them for getting gunk out of keyboards, blasting dust out of my AV receiver and frightening my children). The key here is to use the minimum you need: don't go in gung-ho with your Dyson at maximum power or your can of air at very close range. Make sure you include the fins at the side and the ports on the front too. PS5 cleaning instructions from Sony are the same for both the Standard and Digital Edition of the console. For cleaning the plastic covers of the PS5 and the DualSense Wireless Controller use a soft, dry cloth. For any ports on the console that have accumulated any dirt or dust, use a dry cloth to wipe away the buildup. Now, if your base is placed in the horizontal direction, you only need to remove it. Simply put the console on its face, with the charging port facing upwards. Then, lift the base up to remove it. Remove the PS5’s Plate The next step is taking out the PS5 plates. You require no tools, but if it becomes difficult, you may use a plastic pry or a spudger.

Then, use a microfiber cloth with a bit of alcohol to clean it deeper. If you don’t have the microfiber cloth, you can use a regular cloth, a brush, a wipe, or cue tips. Clean the Intake and the Exhaust Vents Sony's advice for fixing noisy PS5 fans is first of all, prevention: make sure there's at least 10cm of space around each side of the console, and don't place it on a carpet or rug with long fibres. And if you do have dusty vents, it recommends you use a low-powered vacuum cleaner to remove any dust that's accumulated in and around the air vents. Make sure your PS5 is disconnected from the power cable when you do this. Pull up with force, and at the same time push to the right, and the lid will come off. Discard for now. Your cleaning kit consists of a micro-fiber cloth and a soft toothbrush. Optional, you can get canned air or a low-powered vacuum. Lastly, it would help if you had isopropyl alcohol. Make sure you keep your PS5 on a hard stable surface, as soft tops like carpet or upholstery or carpets can lead to a buildup of heat and dust.

If you lift the console up, you will see the metal heatsink inside. This has to be clean, and free from any gunge, dust or crap. The good news, though, is that you don't need to clean it very often, and when you do you don't need a lot of time or tools. In fact, some basic cleaning doesn't even need you to open up the console. How to clean your PS5: what Sony says Prevention goes a long way in keeping dust at bay. Using an air purifier can help combat any build-up, but it won’t do all the work and you’ll need to replace the filters regularly. Even if it’s just an external wipe, cleaning the PS5 faceplates frequently is sensible, as is placing your PS5 on top of a cabinet or table to avoid the floor.
