About this deal

Layers of past and present are built up in such a gripping fashion that the book is hard to put down! Cleo is a strange woman and it seems that the only two people she truly cares about are her brother Mark and niece Lulu. With themes of jealousy, violence, toxic family relationships, and damaged characters, it’s one of those books that holds surprises at every deviously twisted turn. I loved how Evie was made out to be and then how her character morphed into a completely new person; a terrifyingly chilling one.

Kosh spoke to G'Kar about what was coming, told him to let go of his hate and anger, and plead with him not to continue the cycle of blood with the Centauri. There are really only two who, by the end of the story, I felt any kind of sympathy for, both of them ultimately victims in a dangerous and deadly game. Part domestic thriller, part courtroom drama, this story has something to offer for the fans of both genre. Lyta told the station crew she did not fear the Psi Corps and was confident that Kosh would protect her. I found the courtroom scenes the most thrilling as the reader begins to learn so much about Evie's past. Not long after the outbreak of the Narn-Centauri War, Sheridan was kidnapped by an alien race known as the Streib. Just as you think you have sorted out what has happened a spanner is thrown into the works and you have to think again.

While that might seem like the end of one journey, it is for many the beginning of another, and commencement conveys that. When Sheridan replied how annoyed he was by Kosh's cryptic replies, Kosh responded with apparent amusement. The story begins with two police officers attending a bloody scene in a bedroom in a house by the side of a cliff. The trial part of the story was something I really enjoyed and when combined with the police investigations the truth starts to be revealed. I have read the previous seven Rachel Abbott novels and found them all compelling reading and thoroughly enjoyable.

There is great character development in the book and you're never quite sure which character you're rooting for, particularly during the courtroom scenes which were at times so tense I was on the edge of my seat. The police attending think they are attending the scene of a double murder, until one of the bodies moves, Evie, covered in blood, in obvious shock, admits to killing her partner, Mark North.

If you are looking for lies, secrets, revenge and more twists than you can keep up with, then you are in for a treat. It has a strong theme of family, forcing the reader to think about just how far they would go for their loved ones, and if the ends, in this case in particular, can ever justify the means. This is a seriously eerie story and had me changing my mind frequently from one chapter to the next as to what was truth and what was lies, the characters were THAT convincing.

The shocking twist at the end was a bit overshadowed by the theatrical events that took place, and I’m not particularly fond of characters launching into dramatic monologues either, but the rest of the story was so good, that it didn’t bother me too much. While those events happened, Kosh had arranged for Talia Winters to "mediate" a business deal between him and a being named Abbut. Stephanie's the sergeant and she has Jason, the probationer with her in the squad car, but Stephanie doesn't like where they're heading. The story is cleverly plotted with three dimensional characters and a lot of tension, which is stretched like a piece of elastic, to the point where you literally can’t put the book down as you just have to know what happens. In 2258, when the Narn attacked the Centauri agricultural colony Ragesh 3, Kosh attended the emergency Council session at Sinclair's request, though he did nothing more than observe. We know there's something very strange going on as soon as we join the story: we begin by hearing how it's going to end and that someone must die. The amble in preamble comes from the Latin verb meaning "to walk" (as found in ambulance and ambulatory); the Late Latin praeambulus means "walking in front of. Before Sheridan left, the piece of Kosh within him warned him again that if he went to Z'ha'dum, he would die.
