This is the uplifting, beautifully illustrated story of two beloved friends as they journey through the seasons of the year together, into the wild, exploring the thoughts and emotions, hardships and happiness that connect us all. My boys and I read a few pages each night, then we have wonderful, in-depth discussions around some of the topics. One of the factors that really pushed this work forward was after I started volunteering on the phones for Samaritans talking to people who find it hard to cope with life.

Written during the covid pandemic, the book is a collection of the illustrations that author James Norbury shared on his site (BigPandaandTinyDragon. There are some beautiful ideas covered such as the importance of living in the moment, the importance of helping others while helping yourself too, and the value of being a listener.A man living below the poverty line, helping others as a volunteer with the Samaritans, who self-published a book after literary agents showed no interest in his earlier work has had his book snapped up in a six-figure deal by publishers in 20 countries so far. It features the two friends, who often find themselves lost but discover beautiful sights they never would have found if they had gone the right way. From there he travelled around the UK living in Newcastle, Swansea and Cheltenam, some of the time living on a narrowboat.

this book is so sweet and beautiful and nothing i say in this review will ever do it justice, honestly. His first love was animals and he studied zoology at Swansea University, wanting to become a park ranger, but finding a job proved impossible. Books like this I find to hard to comment on - even if they are more my personal views rather than professional in-depth reviews. This is a gorgeous, thoughtful, uplifting book about love, friendship, and not stressing too much about the goings-on around us over which we have little to no power.
