About this deal

The magic of CINDERELLA IS DEAD lies not with pumpkin carriages or fairy godmothers, but with girls taking control of their own fairy tale endings, overthrowing toxic patriarchies, and learning to walk like they bear crowns. If not selected, it's sort of unclear what becomes of them, but many forfeited girls are never heard from again. Because every girl has to recite it daily, from when she's tiny until the night she's sent to the royal ball for choosing. Full of power, humour, strength and love, "Cinderella Is Dead" shows itself to be one of the most engaging novels I've encountered this year. It's so bad that soldiers can casually talk about killing their old wives to get new younger ones right in the open.

Where she met Constance ❤️ and Sophia and Constance went places to try to figure out how to stop the king aka prince charming, on there there way they also met Amina aka the fairy godmother. Another reviewer used the terms "predictable, important, and frustrating" to describe this book, and I have to wholeheartedly agree. She hides out in Cinderella's mausoleum, where she meets Constance, a descendant of Cinderella and her stepsisters.I thought the first 1/3 was very engaging, fast paced, and I really liked all the characters introduced. Amazing character dynamics: The last theme I want to touch on is the intricacy and complexity of these characters. Kalynn Bayron’s YA fantasy debut Cinderella is Deadwas one of 2020’s most pleasant surprises, a rich and compelling retelling that reimagined the classic fairytale as a powerful story of resistance.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t really lead to anything which is a shame because I loved the potential there. Female Misogynist: As a result of Mersailles' rampant anti-woman philosophy, a lot of young women and girls grow up internalizing harmful beliefs about themselves, leading to them competing with, shaming and degrading each other for men's affection. and I don't think there was enough background and world-building to support such a staunchly "traditional" society. Cinderella is Dead was a highly anticipated book for me, I absolutely love retellings and was quite excited when I was approved on NetGalley for an eARC. The novel is focused on Sophia Grimmins, a queer teenager living in the same world as Cinderella, 200 years after her death.Bis zum Schluss wollte der Funke bei mir nicht überspringen, aber das Potenzial und der Grundgedanke hinter dieser Geschichte hat mir extrem gut gefallen. While Cinderella has never been one of my favorites fairytales, I do love retellings and the whole point of it is that it can make something you weren't that crazy about so much more interesting. A dark take on a popular fairy tale/retelling: If there is something you love in books, especially in YA fantasy, it is retellings, as you know. She brings some levity to the story with her occasional grumpiness, and she has a flirtatious side that occasionally throws Sophia off her game. There are issues with this story but I think I would still recommend this to fans of fairytale retellings.
