About this deal

This would make things very hard for the murderer, but the game balances this out well with one caveat – if the murderer can guess the identity of the witness at the end of the game, they win. Each round, after an indeterminate amount of discussion, everyone’s supposed to go around and present their official hypothesis for weapon and clue within a 30 second time limit.

Deception: Murder in Hong Kong - Grey Fox Games

For 6 to 12 player games, you will have one forensic scientist, one murderer, an optional Accomplice, and optional witness, and the rest will be investigators. And then there are hidden role and social deduction games - the ones that encourage you to lie through your teeth to your family and friends. Even if you start out as an innocent villager, it’s seldom a good idea to be completely open and honest. If I’ve got new players in a game then I’ll volunteer myself as the FS or see if anyone wants to take the role.

They have no way of knowing which is the Murderer and which is the Accomplice and they do not know how the crime was committed.

Current Games - Deception: Murder in Hong Kong - Page 1

The Lab Technician should point to 1 Clue Card or Means Card on the table and the Forensic Scientist should verify (by gesturing and/or mouthing the name of the object) that they are both looking at the same card. This is done by cashing in your badge token and pointing out a player and a means of murder and an evidence clue. Deception: Murder in Hong Kong combines the ‘find the bad guy’ element of other social deduction games with a clever mechanic for giving clues. The visual element of the game encourages players to think outside the box and creates extra space for ridiculous misunderstandings. The witness knows which players are playing the murderer and accomplice are but not which role they have. While you wont find it in the rulebook anywhere, what happens next is that everyone talks through all their thoughts. Different people approach problems in different ways, and I loved some of the wild theories that got thrown around. Being the murderer could easily feel like you’re in a no win situation if the clues and the cards align against you.
