About this deal

As with all reviews on this site, this is solely my opinion about a handful of bottles I tried, and is not the final word on Glenfarclas or these expressions. Water makes a huge difference, coaxing out almond and cashew butter along with milk chocolate - it's a Snickers bar remix. Good translation from nose to mouth with simmered fruits, maltiness and mustiness all present and correct. The Glenfarclas whisky distillery draws its water from pure springs on the rugged Ben Rinnes mountain range, which looms omnipresent in the distant reaches.

Dry and assertive, develops quickly to reveal a rich spiciness, combined with a hint of oak and sherried fruit. The MoM tasting notes talk of raisins, walnuts, dates and orange peel, sadly I found these lacking or weak. There’s a good punch of wood here and as such associated sherry wood spicing which is both peppery and with pleasant salinity. The single cask Highland single malt whisky matured in a sherry butt, and was bottled in July 2022, with an outturn of 567.

These old time values still have some modern day benefit for whisky lovers - Glenfarclas bottings present unfussy low-key branding which eschew the current trend for marketing-driven label twaddle. The key selling point of Glenfarclas 105 is in the name: it’s cask strength at 105 old British proof, or 60% ABV, every time. More lime juice, as well as stewed stone fruit, chalk, orange marmalade, and yellow sandwich mustard.Add a drop of water if you please to explore its depth - and don't be put off by that ABV, there's plenty of flavour here to enjoy. This Highland single malt was distilled in 1987 and the whisky maturing in a fourth-fill sherry butt. Hazelnuts, leather, dried dark fruit, copper, orange peels, baking spice, cocoa, graham, and a touch of ash.

Having recently attended a Glenfarclas tasting and enjoying a 1966 family cask bottling and the 30yr bottling too, the bang for your buck mantra is so very true with this distillery. I don’t know anyone who’s deeply annoyed by whisky being diluted before it’s filled into casks, even if filling at still strength is a nice curiosity.

We're taking a trip to the year 2000 with this addition to The Family Casks series from Glenfarclas. But tax for Scotch in Taiwan is pretty low due to Scotland recognizing as a country or something like that.

Balance of sharply spicy red pepper and softly rich and creamy flavors, with subtle fruitiness held in check by a surprisingly pert stoniness. This addition to the Summer 2022 series sees Highland single malt whisky that was distilled in 1988 (when Kylie Minogue was storming the charts) matured in a refill sherry butt. Sure, some might be diluting based on a profit margin spreadsheet, or simply to produce a certain number of bottles from the liquid they have. d) the right to license, use, sell, archive, reproduce, distribute, modify, perform, publish, create derivative works from, offer for sale, or use of the Service. Fortunately for those of you back in Britannia, there’s a 3-pack of 15cl miniatures of these three whiskies available, in case you’d like to recreate this tasting in the comfort of your own home.Similarly to fellow cask strength sherried heavy weight Aberlour A’bunadh, as a vatting of casks there are reports of batch variance for time to time, but that’s the nature of the beast when it comes to vattings. It can be tasted neat (which I rarely do with at such abv) but it's really nice and nothing like it's 15 year old brother. Firstly, with all due respect, in regard to your Bottling Note - Prior to 1968 the vast majority of whiskies were bottled at 75 Degrees, 25 under-proof (43%A. Interestingly, the photos you show here indicate that the 25 year old bottling was pre-2009; the other two following the required labelling changes of SWR 2009.
