About this deal

He uses it to assassinate the King of Diamonds and the King of Clubs, and trap Nomad, Jack, and the London agents in their bunker to suffocate. Some parts were quite unbelievable, for example the fact that Henry was over 500 years old but still had never been anywhere out of England? It was tedious to read, especially since I didn’t really care about the other person (whose letters were so long, too) and the narrative purpose it served could easily have been achieved otherwise. The pining is also not particularly satisfying, given that the author, at least in this book, showcased his poor ability to hold tension in a natural and organic way.

I generally don't read paranormal/vampire romances these days because they tend to come with fated mates, which I hate because of the lack of agency it implies (and in cishet romance it comes with a lot of toxic masculinity).

Even if he's through with time travel, I'm sure he's not done saving people and making a difference. Realizing that MI6 cannot save Parker in time, Stone works with her operational contact, "Jack of Hearts", to save him.

The author did an extraordinary job of writing not only Rembrandt and his wife, Eve (best characters ever), but the entire assortment of characters surrounding those two. This series has made me laugh, cry, scream, howl in frustration, and peer through fingers bracing for what gut-wrenching shenanigans would derail Rembrandt at the turn of the next page. Theophilius is quiet, dilligent, and proper almost to a fault, while Henry is friendly, never shuts up, and is intent on trying to coax Theophilius into expressing any sort of opinion. And in me, too, as I devoured Heart of Stone over the course of just a few days, there grew real affection for the way this story deftly avoids it's own plot. Of course, I love the storyline because it definitely kept me turning the pages, but more than that, I love these characters!Under no circumstances is it okay to use anti-Black racial slurs, make racist comments and work with racist stereotypes. And despite knowing that there would be an HEA, I was a nervous wreck when my kindle showed 94 percent and they were still waffling.
