This book is how a bad day can really turn into a good day Benny reminds me of me and that's why an enjoy this book an why others should read it to! Just My Luck by Adele Parks is the story of a couple that wins the lottery changing their lives forever. Lexi who bought the ticket maintains that the other two couples had left the syndicate but they disagree and want their share. If you ever thought you wanted to win the lottery, this is a great book to let you know why you don't.

Through thrilling twists and turns it’s a challenge to keep on top of this wildly entertaining, often shocking scramble for the upper hand. His father’s recent illness how this affected Benny and his family was moving and powerful and made for a wonderful read. Some of the ones included here are overspending and under-thinking, strangers begging for money, friends to enemies, the aforementioned greed, and some dangerous situations I won’t reveal.Jake and Lexi try to adjust to a life of not worrying about money and spending as fast as they can (well, mostly Jake), Lexi believes in giving back, something she seems to be trying to convince her husband to do. Initially, long standing friends, the Pearsons and the Heathcotes, claim shares in the win as they assert that they have always been part of a syndicate. I literally had massive anxiety as I was trying to calculate how much money the family could potentially have left after his impulse spending.

Some of the acts these characters perform will astound you, repel you, or they may incite a level of sympathy. Brooks is a pro at building suspense even if it plays out in some rather spectacularly yucky episodes, one involving a short spear that takes its name from “the sucking sound of pulling it out of the dead man’s heart and lungs. Three out of four Saturday nights were spent sharing a meal and discussing what happened in their lives since they last met.Lexi Greenwood is determined to use much of the winnings to promote good causes but the rest of the Greenwood family launch into an extravagant and self-indulgent spending spree for which, as often occurs in such matters, there are consequences.

The family must pull together, finding their inner strength to overcome financial and emotional conflict, but they learn that community and friendships are really important too. Poorly written, Long and drawn out, badly edited, unlikable characters and an implausible plot, makes this book one of the worst I've read in a long time. On a whole, a great read and one that should really be on a lot of middle grade bookshelves, and perfect for those kids who are dealing with these issues. Benny tries to take his mom’s advice and focus on helping others, and to take things one step at a time.

As Jake splashes out and proves money really does breed greed there is an extenuated flabby middle that does little to further the plot or fuel suspense before five weeks on from their win, the couple throw a celebratory party and fireworks really do explode. Nevertheless there is a wide variety of characters and a poignant exploration of living with people with disabilities. Benny has an autistic brother, George, and just before Benny starts the 4th grade with who he knows is going to be his very favorite teacher, Benny's dad suffers a medical trauma that will change him and the family dynamics forever.
