Note: If you're using Windows in S mode, you'll need to switch out of S mode or use a different computer to update your Surface Dock.

Look for the registry keys: Component10CurrentFwVersion and Component20CurrentFwVersion, which refer to the firmware that is currently on the device.If you see "The description for Event ID xxxx from source SurfaceDockFwUpdate cannot be found" in event text, this is expected and can be ignored. To update your dock using downloadable MSI packages, go to Surface Dock 2 Drivers and Firmware, select Details, and choose a package to download. Note: If you use the Surface Dock with your Surface Book, the mini-DisplayPort on your Surface Book is covered by the Surface Dock connector and is unavailable. If you have deployed the MSI to Surface devices and a new version of the firmware is released, you need to deploy the new version.
