About this deal
The Nike Downshifter 11 is a superb shoe for anyone starting out in running or training, or those looking for a budget running shoe. It takes the best attributes of the Vaporfly – the ZoomX foam and the carbon plate – and adds Nike’s Air Zoom pods under the forefoot for a poppier toe-off that only adds to the speed of the shoe.

The outsole rubber curves up over the toe to give good durability, protecting the softer foam underneath. It will see you through training runs of up to 10km on a variety of surfaces and keep your feet protected and happy. Especially as I often find with Nike’s the laces come up super short, and easily come undone on a run. Since Nike discontinued the popular Pegasus Turbo line, there hasn’t been a true all-rounder in its range. The other thing I don’t like about Nike’s lower-budget shoes is they cram the heel with foam for a high-drop experience.

The Nike Downshifter 12 comes with an averagely-stacked midsole which is neither too minimalist nor high off the ground. The Pegasus Trail 3 has a full-length React midsole, which offers a high level of comfort while still being stable enough for runs on uneven ground, and there’s extra protection around the front of the shoe to stop stray roots or stones from smashing your toes and ruining your run. Usually, with Nike, we see a big change of design every two versions, so perhaps the 12 will be a little more interesting, but for a low-cost running shoe, designed with a big variety of runners in mind, you can’t go too wrong with this shoe. This design gave good tread, smooth heel-to-toe transitions, and was flexible enough to remain comfortable.
