The liquid from the kebabs drips through onto the rice a little, so just be aware that what you cook on top will slightly come through to the bottom layer. Thanks to its clever design, there’s no need to change lids for different modes, while the temperature probe adds a new level of precision cooking. On the bottom level, I put 200g of rice with 500ml of water, and set a cooking time of 15-minutes at 180°C. Comparatively expensive, this model won’t be for everyone, but its unique design lends itself to foods that other air fryers can’t even think about. With a higher-than-average temperature option of 230C, rather than the usual 200C, the Sage the Smart Oven Air Fry can cook food faster than many other air fryers, although it does take a bit longer to heat up.

Just be careful with the preset options, as we found that our pizza began to burn after 15 minutes, although the programme was set for 20 minutes. It's prettier than other multi-cookers at first glance - if it was a toss-up between the Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 and this smaller pastel cooker, I know which one I'd choose. We tried again using the Steam only setting for 10 minutes and this steamed the vegetables perfectly. We always test by cooking home-made chips, sausages and frozen convenience food, such as fish fingers. Mostly, products like this are very expensive, but the Salter Aerogrill is cheaper than a lot of air-fryer only cookers.My only minor complaint is that the crisper plate is a bit fiddly to remove to get to the bottom layer: I found using a pair of insulated rubber oven gloves was the best way. With the remaining rice, I added soya sauce and the heated onions and peppers, using the sear function to finish off the meal, and gave that to my daughter who doesn’t like the heat of the curry. It’s quite a beast, but if you use an air fryer all of the time, cook large portions (or for lots of people) and want quality results each time, then there’s nothing better than this model. Reducing the cooking time by 20 per cent, and the temperature needed by 20 degrees, it saved on every element of the process. With grilll, sear and air fry functions, too, the Speedi can also cook pretty much any type of dish, and the steam air fry function is just incredible.
