After I read Carla Luna’s first book in her Blackwood Cellars series, I predicted it would be my favorite contemporary romance series.It’s clear long before he realizes it that Brody loves April, and I love how he supports and defends her throughout their trip. We’re going to be there for six days, and the weather might be iffy since fall in Wisconsin isn’t dependable. A series of romantic comedies, featuring the Blackwood family (owners of the Blackwood Cellars wine empire), set at three distinct destination weddings in Maui, the northwoods of Wisconsin, and California Wine Country. I wouldn’t have been able to read this book – or participate in this Blog Tour- without Rachel (of Rachel’s Random Resources) so I just wanted to say thank you to her for organising the tour and for letting me have a spot on it, too. I did struggle to like April’s family, and even after the explanations of why specific family members acted so nastily to April, I found them difficult to understand and forgive.

April’s brother and his fiancée, April’s quirky cousin, and Brody’s friends are all supportive, accepting, and encouraging, and I loved their roles in the story. The story has many tropes that I love – friends-to-lovers romance, only one bed, fake dating, and more. Having read Blue Hawaiian a few months back, it was only right for me to join the blog tour for the second book in the series Red Velvet. Neither feels like they fit in with the rest of their family, and they always seem like they are trying to prove themselves to those who should accept them without reservation. If April was the devil on every dieter’s shoulder, then Hanna from HR was the angel, with her array of heart-healthy snacks, like kale chips and radish hummus.Luna’s rom-coms are Goldilocks-level perfect: they’re not too silly or too spicy, and there are just enough familiar romance tropes to make it satisfying on every level.
