About this deal

Paramount Home Media Distribution has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray Wes Craven's Scream 2 (1997), starring David Arquette, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Jamie Kennedy.

So to top off the excellent work seen here, the job of putting the film onto disc is also handled very well indeed – compression may not have the high numbers many may expect (a stable and consistent bit rate of around the low to mid 50mbps was seen throughout) but importantly, there are no obvious issues with the encode – no frozen grain, no softening, nothing. A couple of years shy of its 25th Anniversary, Paramount Home Entertainment brings Wes Craven's Scream 3to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray as a standalone, single-disc edition with a flyer for a digital copy, granting owners access to the 4K UHD version in Dolby Vision HDR with Dolby Digital Plus 5. Set during the production of Stab 3, the movie starts off with some amusingly intriguing nudges at the Hollywood system, and the kills play out much like they do in the script of the faux-horror flick. There are a couple reasons for this: The market had become saturated with the “teen horror” genre and it was just a bit lackluster. As with the previous two installments, Scream 3 has its share of fight scenes that usually result in someone’s death.

It walks the tricky line of saturating and enriching the colours without forcing them into overly bright or horribly unnatural: the all-important blacks are deep and dark, yet always with a texture to them that gives them depth; the primaries, especially red, are almost at the point of uncomfortably eye-searing but always stays the right side of that line; while the more natural colours such as skin tones, skies and vegetation look incredibly realistic, with a huge range of shade and shadow employed to bring them all to life. There’s balance to the light and dark parts of the image that is almost perfect, creating a real sense of depth to the picture.

All of the Scream movies tend to have a nice balance of daytime, sun-kissed skies juxtaposed with the dark of night (and the red of blood). At startup, fans can enjoy a trailer for the latest installment in the franchise, along with two promos for the 'Saw' series and other Blu-ray releases from the studio. Several comments are interesting and quite informative, but overall, not much different than the previous discussion.

At time of writing, there is no sign of the other three films (' Scream 2,' ' Scream 3,' ' Scre4m') on UHD. Second time around does this new iteration of the Scream franchise no favours at all, with this just released 4K disc from Paramount going out of its way to remind you exactly what’s so wrong with the film itself. We and our partners use data for Personalised ads and content, ad and content measurement, audience insights and product development. Yet we have to remember that it has incredibly illustrious predecessors and in any other franchise, this would likely be remembered more fondly than it is. Lionsgate Films Home Entertainment brings 'Scream 3' to Blu-ray as on a Region A locked, BD25 disc and housed in a blue eco-case.

The autumnal hues of Woodsboro – the greens of the leaves, the rich burnt oranges and browns of autumn leaves, the clear blue skies – look beautiful and as a huge amount of the film takes place in these bright, California sunshine lit environs, this sense of realism gives a lovely visual punch - just look at the exterior of the bowling alley at the start of Chapter Two for a sense of the naturalness to the image. Paramount Pictures and Fathom Events will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Wes Craven's Scream (1996) with two theatrical screenings of the film on October 10th and 11th. The iconic film stars Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Neve Campbell, and if you’re a fan of the series or a horror aficionado, this steelbook would look great in your collection. Surround moments are here and plenty, with both music and environmental ambience and discrete effects (the phone ringing from the rears speakers is always a smile inducer) almost omnipresent. There aren't any real must-have new features on the C3 (upgrades include things like a brighter screen and a picture-in-picture feature from multiple inputs).
