The true blue kipper will receive 1 point for every unflipped fish on the table if their fish is flipped. If the true blue fish is left unflipped, the person who had that will score a point for every fish that wasn't flipped over. Before we get into the review main, I want to pay credit to Big Potato Games for their continued efforts towards sustainability with eco-friendly, recycled packaged Sure, it doesn't look as nice, but who cares?
The Red Herrings must each come up with a lie that is convincing enough to try and trick the guesser into thinking theirs is the correct one. Once each person has given their answer, the person who read the question out then needs to decide who is telling the truth, and who is giving them a red herring. Going round the group they eliminate who they think are Red Herrings, flipping over their fish, while avoiding the True Blue Kipper. It is worth pointing out at this time this is a party game and although the game is great at four players the fun only increases the closer you get to the maximum player count of ten. The insert, which holds everything perfectly, is made of recycled paper and it certainly has that smell which reminds you of its green credentials.Sounds Fishy isn’t about always knowing the right answer — it’s about being able to spot the fake ones. The Guesser reads the question aloud and the other players will see the question and the answer (in bold blue). And as the guesser, some may find the process of separating the fact from the fiction too much to handle. The guesser will take a question card out of the sleeve so they can only see the question whereas the other players can see the back of the card which provides the question and answer.
Sounds Fishy is a push-your-luck communication game where you try to spot fake answers whilst avoiding the real ones. A game like this lives or dies on the strength of its trivia, and Sounds Fishy passes the litmus test with gusto. It initially feels counter intuitive however, as instead of trying to find the truth (the single blue fish player), you’re trying to find as many red herrings as you can. People can really try to put you off by seeming unsure when they give an answer or look ‘shifty’ all with the aim of throwing the guesser off the scent. So if you have the Blue Kipper, you want to give the correct answer in such a way that the Guesser thinks it might be fake.There are 200 questions which should last quite a while, lots of points tokens, eight red herrings and one true blue kipper. When you open the shiny box you will see the game includes some pretty nice components for a party game. Play continues until everyone has been the Guesser either 1 or 2 times (depending on the number of players). However, it feels like you should be scoring for the opposite, or gaining points for a great answer, so it’s easy to get muddled. Picking out literal red herring answers is an easy sell that doesn't take any explaining, so getting enough players together isn't hard.
The most we’ve played with is 9 people – and that was over a lunch break with my co-workers this week. If you are a fan of party games then chances are you will already have one of Big Potato Games releases neatly tucked away in your shelves already.There are 200 cards included, which is more than enough for casual play, but if you enjoyed it in the same way my gaming group had, with cards being so memorable, we’ll easily be out of cards in the next year. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE:Whether you like being creative, finding out weird facts or being a little bit sneaky, Sounds Fishy has something for everyone.
