About this deal

She is also every Caribbean child who comes from a culture that is often unforgiving and lacking in understanding. Chris Warnes is a regular contributor to leading Australian interior publications, photographing homes and interior spaces. what I did not like about this book is two things, the repetitive concepts, and mostly its structure, its structure is flow is weird, hard to memorize, hard to understand, most of the books I read I memorize from its simple structure and ease in flow, but this one has a structure that I don't get yet. This book is an exercise in how to say: "Don't copy the stuff you see on Instagram and Pinterest but rather do your own thing because it's the authenticity that makes a home" in a million different ways.

When we are surrounded by limitless choice and a constant stream of ideas, our values create a roadmap that is uniquely our own. Beautiful photography and gorgeously styled homes, but I didn’t feel like there was anything groundbreaking here. This is about a girl from Trinidad who comes to Edmonton, Canada after she has had a breakdown and tried to kill herself. It wasn't until after the 50 pages mark that it got better and by better I mean it went from 2 stars to 3 stars and this book is 100 pages long.My real life is in a place where nobody wants me around, nobody understands me, and nobody really cares if I live or die? Filled with beautiful photography, transporting stories and practical advice, This Is Home reminds and inspires us to nurture the space that helps make our lives possible.

This Is Home is about simple living - how to focus on our values to create authentic homes full of meaning and joy. It's about living simply--finding the essence of what makes you happy at home and creating spaces that reflect your needs and style. Starting over: let go of the past and create a home for the person you are today, with a focus on decision-making and the art of editing. It’s the story of how she copes with her life and makes sense of it and makes Edmonton her Home Home. It's also packed with photos of close-up details of different homes from around the world, but mainly from the richest and most privileged countries in the world, the only exception being Morocco, because no hipster coffee table book can be complete without Morocco; but don't worry, the author made sure to visit only rich and privileged people's homes in Morocco, no local people's homes here, just rich and privileged expats explaining how they're oh so over living in the medina. The only other thing I will say is, I don’t think we ever knew the full first name of the main character until the LAST PAGE. I was really, really unhappy, like I had this big hole in my belly between my heart and my stomach and I couldn’t fill it with food or with love or books or anything and I just felt sad, all the time, all the time, all the time. This book echoes how I would like to live, talks of beautiful stories of family and bio vignettes, places around the world and the love of collecting meaningful objects.

There's an undoubted element of frustration there that I need to acknowledge because, I suspect, were it given some more space, this could be something kind of great. It's apparent, due to an early panic attack, that Kayla is struggling with more than her recent relocation. It frequently came off as overly formal to me, in a way that didn’t sound like normal teenagers to me. The philosophy of living simply and directed by one's values resonated with me and will resonate with many.

I did find it interesting that the main character’s name isn’t actually mentioned until the last page! Finally, I wanted to see Kayla's ideas surrounding the LGBTQ+ community evolve a bit faster than they did. Now, living with an estranged aunt she barely remembers and dealing with her "troubles" in a foreign country, she feels more lost than ever. As she comes to terms with cultural differences and new friendships, Kayla moves from a place of ‘penance’ to where she is ready to ‘start to get better’.
