About this deal

The garden at East Lambrook Manor, open to the public since 1950, has since come to represent the classic cottage garden style. A passion for nature and ability to mix plants effectively even in the smallest space and in differing environments, made her ideas relevant to all gardeners of her time and for future generations of gardeners. While the cottage garden style was already apparent at Hidcote and Sissinghurst, these were gardens that still required paid gardeners. I have put in a few dozen irises and both the thymes and sages seem to have survived recent planting.

Margery took up the baton of cottage gardening that started outside humble country dwellings, was romanticised by the likes of William Robinson and reached the height of fashion at gardens such as Hidcote and Sissinghurst. wulfenii 'Lambrook Gold', the cotton lavender Santolina chamaecyparissus 'Lambrook Silver', and the primrose Primula 'Lambrook Mauve'. In a world where women had still not been given the vote, Lord Northcliffe, showed Margery that regardless of their sex, it was the ability of his staff to work hard and show talent that would lead to their success.
