About this deal
This award is given every year by Action for Children’s Arts to a “children’s arts practitioner” whose lifetime’s work has delighted children and will stand the test of time. He won the 1995 Whitbread Children's Book Award for The Wreck of the Zanzibar, the 1996 Nestle Smarties Book Prize for The Butterfly Lion, and the 2000 Children's Book Award for Kensuke's Kingdom. J’ai trouvé le livre vraiment mignon et aussi très poétique, il mêle les vieilles légendes des Cornouailles avec un contexte historique (clairement pas ma partie préférée dans les livres d’ailleurs), pour ceux qui aiment ça.

But it's a slower book then the others we've read by Morpurgo, so I don't think kiddo enjoyed it as much as the others. Michael's books have been translated into many languages including Chinese, Bulgarian and Hungarian, Hebrew and Japanese. This is classic Morpurgo territory – a story very much close to nature, set in the Scilly Isles around the time of the Great War – against the backdrop of a way of life largely for the most part now no longer with us.When a whale is discovered stranded on the sand, some want to rescue it, while others in the village think it is the harvest of the sea and theirs to kill. As I have said for many other Morpurgo books, his storyline is very strong and the content is very meaningful.

First of all, Gracie doesn't want to know the Birdman, scared the rumours are true, not only about the Birdman, but about Samson too.I will be recommending it to my junior high school library patrons and have just placed more books by Michael Morpugo on our school's wish list. Gracie and her friend Daniel have been told to never get close to Rushy bay and to stay away from The Birdman. Determined to find out more and to lift the curse it becomes a race against time and against all the other inahbitants of the Isles of Scilly for the children to prevent the curse from striking again.
