About this deal

Reincarnation and the spiral of life are strong themes too: seed and grain, life and death, womb and tomb. The precise dates on which festivals are celebrated often vary to some degree, as would the related agricultural milestones of the local region. The second Lunar eclipse happens at Mourning Full moon on the flip side of the wheel with Scorpio Sun/Taurus Moon on November 8th. Celtic peoples have celebrated the winter solstice in the British Isles since before the arrival of Christianity, though many Yule traditions flowed into Christmas and there are obvious parallels between the two traditions, such as the exchanging of gifts.

Yule is the first sabbat of the year because the year is considered to start right after Samhain, on November 1st. The four Lesser Sabbats are Ostara, the vernal equinox; Litha, the summer solstice; Mabon, the autumn equinox; and Yule, the winter solstice. Here is a list of holidays observed in the Northern Hemisphere by Neopagans (including some Norse, Druid, and Heathen occasions) and of course the Wiccan Sabbats. The power of the sun and Earth’s lush, green growth are celebrated by contemporary Pagans, connecting with the earth’s life and magickal energies. The Wheel of the Year is an annual cycle of seasonal festivals, observed by a range of modern pagans, marking the year's chief solar events ( solstices and equinoxes) and the midpoints between them.

Hopefully, this comprehensive list will keep you informed and up-to-date for any events that you may wish to observe as a Wiccan or pagan in 2024. September holds within it the autumn equinox, and the changing of leaves prompts us to reflect upon the fleeting nature of our existence. Because solstices and equinoxes are tied to exact astronomical moments, the holidays shift slightly from year-to-year.January 11: New Moon in Capricorn – a time to set attainable goals, form concrete plans for the future, and meditate on the meaning of responsibility and all that it entails for you. The big pitfall to avoid in lunar timing, is checking the time of it’s peak during that day, and what sign the moon is in. The Wheel of the Year is celebrated by Pagans, Wiccans and all those who choose to follow a calendar of natural cycles, with seasonal celebrations set in around the solar festivals. However, we have jobs, and families, and sometimes the coven just can’t manage to get their ritual act together until the weekend. It’s important to mention that the Wheel of the Year in the Southern Hemisphere works opposite to that of the Northern Hemisphere because the seasons are inverted. In celebration of Beltane and Mother’s Day, May is a month to gather and rejoice in life’s warmest moments, given to us by our family and friends, and the pleasant days ahead.

Ritual Function: Balance elemental water energy, and shadow work for the virtues and vices of Scorpio. Some heathen organisations use a Wheel of the Year framework for their festival calendar such as the Swedish group Samfundet Forn Sed Sverige, the American inclusive group The Troth and the folkish Ásatrú Alliance. Journaling about your shadow work is a great opportunity to delve deeper into a topic while honing these communication skills.

Samhain is a time to honor all those who have come before, for all that was gifted to us during the year, to ask for guidance, and to set intentions as the turning of the wheel begins again. This method aligns with the Hermetic paradigm upon which all the rest of my magickal practice is based.

It is the opposite point on the wheel to the spring equinox (Ostara) and is one of the four ‘lesser sabbats’. On the great night ( New Year), two children of Perun are born, Jarilo, god of fertility and vegetation and son of the Moon, and Morana, goddess of nature and death and daughter of the Sun. The multiple dates listed show the days that the holiday could fall on, and the specific date is the specific date for the holiday in that year.
