The precise dates on which festivals are celebrated often vary to some degree, as would the related agricultural milestones of the local region. The second Lunar eclipse happens at Mourning Full moon on the flip side of the wheel with Scorpio Sun/Taurus Moon on November 8th. Celtic peoples have celebrated the winter solstice in the British Isles since before the arrival of Christianity, though many Yule traditions flowed into Christmas and there are obvious parallels between the two traditions, such as the exchanging of gifts.

Yule is the first sabbat of the year because the year is considered to start right after Samhain, on November 1st. The four Lesser Sabbats are Ostara, the vernal equinox; Litha, the summer solstice; Mabon, the autumn equinox; and Yule, the winter solstice.Here is a list of holidays observed in the Northern Hemisphere by Neopagans (including some Norse, Druid, and Heathen occasions) and of course the Wiccan Sabbats. The Wheel of the Year is celebrated by Pagans, Wiccans and all those who choose to follow a calendar of natural cycles, with seasonal celebrations set in around the solar festivals. However, we have jobs, and families, and sometimes the coven just can’t manage to get their ritual act together until the weekend. It’s important to mention that the Wheel of the Year in the Southern Hemisphere works opposite to that of the Northern Hemisphere because the seasons are inverted. In celebration of Beltane and Mother’s Day, May is a month to gather and rejoice in life’s warmest moments, given to us by our family and friends, and the pleasant days ahead.
