About this deal

Grace never loses sight of the fact he’s investigating a murder, which underlines how ruthless the criminals he’s seeking are. They’re only interested in profit, and don’t care who gets hurt along the way. Roy Grace is a Brighton-based detective whose outlook has been coloured by the disappearance of his beloved wife Sandy. He has a good heart and a strong drive to help others, but he's a damaged man. When a young farmer confronts intruders in the middle of the night he has no idea that just minutes later he will be left dying in a pool of blood. What's more chilling is what the perpetrators were willing to kill for. At the scene of the crime, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace soon realises this is no isolated robbery gone wrong but the tip of the iceberg of a nationwide crime wave, in which ruthless organised gangs are making more money from the illegal trade in dogs than drugs.

As Grace investigates a nearby murder, he soon realises the man on trial is pure evil, and he'll stop at nothing to ensure his own freedom. Will he be able to stop the man before anyone else gets hurt? Grace is a character that it’s impossible to dislike, he’s honest, caring, dedicated & not afraid to show it all, either in regards to chasing down the criminals that chose a bad route when they neared him, but also in regard to his family & friends, Grace bares it all, unashamed to show his love & appreciation for what he truly knows is a blessed life.

Book 14 | Dead if You Don't

The first Roy Grace book, Dead Simple, was released in 2005 by Pan Macmillan. The tagline read, “Four bodies, one suspect, no trace. The first case for Detective Superintendent Roy Grace.” From there, the story begins with a prank gone wrong. Michael Harrison disappears into the big city without a trace. James is very active in his community. He has been involved in twenty-six movies (including The Merchant of Venice), is a chairman of the Brighton and Hove Drugs Commission, helps out with the local neighborhood watch, is an Ambassador for Brighton University, and helps with Action Medical Research. He also donated a police car to the Sussex Police in 2008.

Peter J. James (born 22 August 1948) is a British writer of crime. He was born in Brighton, the son of Cornelia James, the former glovemaker to Queen Elizabeth II. In the aftermath of 9/11, a failed Brighton businessman sees an opportunity to shed his debts, disappear, and reinvent himself in another country. I love the Roy Grace books and have read every single one. This latest instalment was a great read and had me hooked from the very beginning. We have a couple of storylines running parallel to each other, with the investigation into the murder of a farmer who was trying to prevent his puppies being stolen, the subsequent trail into who was illegally importing puppies from abroad and the sad hospitalisation of a young girl. The storylines were gripping and, whilst it wasn’t really a “whodunnit”, I was kept on edge wondering how it was all going to end. When a young farmer confronts intruders in the middle of the night he has no idea that just minutes later he will be left dying in a pool of blood. What’s more chilling is what the perpetrators were willing to kill for. The book is the latest in the Roy Grace series after the previous release of Picture You Dead which launched in October. The story is told in the typical Grace style, racing through the revelations and trying to stop anything else happening before its too late. The usual crew of Branson, E-J and Potting are there, along with some new faces who hopefully will feature in future stories. Michael Harrison's friends decided it would be funny to bury him alive as a stag night prank. Unfortunately, they were killed in a car accident before they could retrieve him, leaving the man buried in an unknown location just days before his wedding. DS Roy Grace sets out to help his beautiful, distraught fiancee. Drawing inspiration from a real life art forger James has delivered a story that is as fascinating as it is engrossing. The deadly world of fine art involves underhanded dealings, forgery, theft, double crossing and even murder. Some collectors will stop at nothing to get the piece they want!

James is patron of the Sussex Police Charitable Trust, patron of Brighton & Hove Samaritans, patron of the Brighton Greyhound Owners Association Retired Greyhound Trust, patron of Brighton and Hove Independent Mediation Service, patron of Relate in Sussex, patron of Terrys Cross House, patron of Little Green Pig, national co-patron of Neighbourhood Watch, co-patron of Sussex Crimestoppers, honorary patron for the South Mid Sussex Community First Responders, vice-president of The Old Police Cells Museum in Brighton. He is an ambassador for the University of Brighton, and a Martlets Hospice Champion (which he also supports through his annual Peter James Golf Classic). He supports Action Medical Research. [6] He also supports and works with The Reading Agency, a charity with a mission to give everyone an equal chance in life by helping people become confident and enthusiastic readers. A: The Roy Grace books are set in the English seaside town of Brighton, which is a beautiful place to go when the weather is good. What Is The Next Book in The Roy Grace Series? Many characters in the Roy Grace books turn to Grace as a kind of shining light in their time of darkness. His personable appearance and kind heart makes him easy for victims to talk to and trust, and Grace delivers on that trust nearly every time. After being involved in a fatal traffic accident, Carly Chase receives word that the drivers of the other two vehicles have been tortured and murdered. DS Roy Grace has warned her that she could be next.

In Picture You Dead we meet a couple of men who will do everything to get their hands on some priceless art, and the great thing about the story was for me Peter James makes it clear that you don't get to be a better person when you have an insane amount of money - let alone a happier person. The story of finding a priceless item at a car boot sale is not uncommon; I've watched several times the happy and suprised faces of people on television when being told this 'old painting they found in the attic' was in fact very rare and special. It always pleases me to see when people then decide to keep it, because it belonged to a loved family member.

As soon as the story begins, you can feel some horrible things are about to happen. It's very wise Peter James choose to tell us this story without very graphic descriptions of the conditions these poor animals are kept. There are ruthless criminals in this story, but also loving parents, happy children and of course Grace and his team. There is murder and violence, but also love, even in some people you wouldn't expect. There are grim parts and very moving parts in this book, and it all together makes for a great story. As of April 2021, there are 17 novels in the Roy Grace series. You can buy them separately (links below each title) or get the first 10 in an ebook bundle HERE. Book 1 | Dead Simple Dead Simple I do wish the author had expanded more on his other main characters, we get a little, but it’s just enough to gloss over the surface, the books, to myself anyways, would only be made better by us knowing more about the rest of the cast. A synopsis for the book said: “When a young farmer confronts intruders in the middle of the night he has no idea that just minutes later he will be left dying in a pool of blood. What’s more chilling is what the perpetrators were willing to kill for.
