About this deal

Jiggers with graduated measures allow different volumes to be accurately measured using the same device without the need to upend. In our recipes, a "spoon" is a volumetric measure of 5ml (1/6oz) and stems from bartenders traditionally measuring this volume with a barspoon. The right amounts are important in cocktails, as you do not want to serve a drink that is weak or too strong. For instance, a martini glass holds a smaller volume than a highball glass, so 1 part for a martini might be 1 ounce, while 2 ounces is a better fit for a highball. This is further complicated by those used to working with 25ml as the standard measure also thinking in fractions of that measure.

This saves time and eliminates the chance of spilling liquid while moving the jigger near the glass. First of all, not all jiggers are equal: Some that might appear to measure a true jigger actually measure 1 1/4 ounces instead of 1 1/2.

Many cocktail jiggers are double-sided so that turning such measures over reveals a second size of measuring cylinder or cone. Especially for those who love mixing up a good cocktail, an accurate bar measurement tool is a vitally important thing to have on hand. Cocktails come in all shapes and sizes, which means each delicious concoction comes with different drink measurements. This stainless steel measure can hold 25ml and 50ml of liquid, it's dual use so you can use both ends to measure the required amount.

As you browse cocktail recipes, you will often find the measurements of ingredients listed in ounces, milliliters, dashes, and splashes. Measuring each ingredient accurately is essential to making consistently tasty cocktails so we present our recipes in ml, cl, and ounces. For example, some countries might require the use of official, government sanctioned jiggers, and require that either the metric or imperial system is used. For ease of use, many jiggers have fill lines on the inside or outside with oft-used cocktail or shot glass measurements. Many professional bartenders have built up strong proficiency with using these in settings where speed is of an essence.

The nature of the manufacturing process used does therefore mean that there may be very slight differences from product to product, yet it is the uniqueness of character and story in the making which makes us love them so much. This is served in a cocktail glass, so it doesn't make sense to start with two and a half 1 1/2-ounce jiggers (or 3 3/4 ounces) of bourbon. Not such a problem with spirits but this can quickly lead to a sticky mess with drips of sugary liqueurs or syrups. The Cocktail Society operates out of large warehousing and we have a dedicated operational team delivering our cocktail magic.

The drink would be too large for the glass, and that's a lot of whiskey for a single cocktail (though you could make two drinks at once). The jiggermast is the smallest mast on a ship, so it can be assumed the sailors used the nickname as a form of grievance that their drink rations were a little light. The cocktail will taste the same as it does when served in a highball glass, but now you can shake it and serve it in a cocktail glass without ice for a fancier presentation.

I favour a small clear Polycarbonate plastic scoop with drain slots for crushed ice as these don't impact the ice by conducting heat (unlike a metal scoop). How, then, do you decipher a cocktail measure when there are so many different methods, tools and conversions? S. recipe to metric (or vice versa), it's good to know the standard shot measurements used by bartenders.
