About this deal

Louise's first novel for adults, Almost Love , was published in 2018, followed shortly by The Surface Breaks , her feminist re-imagining of The Little Mermaid . The climb to the top can be meteoric with a spectacular payback but the fall, if and when it comes, can be brutal and swift. And it asks us to consider how two memories of the same event can differ, and how effortlessly we choose which stories to believe. Maybe this could have been used to talk about the sexual violence happening in same sex relationships that isn't ever really addressed (not that it's addressed a lot in straight relationships, but you get what I mean), but once again O'Neill decided not to do anything of merit. I read it in less than 24 hours, but there are themes that certainly did make me uncomfortable at times.

You won’t pay any more for your purchase but i will get a very small commission which goes towards paying for the running costs of this blog. The essay goes viral but when her best friend Lisa contacts her to say that she remembers things about that night very differently, who is telling the truth?

I thought this was a timely story and although the characters weren’t likeable they were highly interesting. She understood their despair but more importantly, she understood the fury hiding beneath their smiles. We start by meeting our protagonist, Samantha Miller, a hugely successful social media lifestyle guru. All we need is Ronan fucking Farrow to decide he wants to investigate the story for the New Yorker and we may as well kill ourselves now and get it over with. Darkly delicious' ELIZABETH DAY'Fresh, glamorous, surprising' MARIAN KEYES'Compulsive, brilliant' ABIGAIL DEAN'Utterly gripping and unsettling' LUCY FOLEY'An absolute page turner; addictive' CECILIA AHERNPICKED AS ONE OF STYLIST MAGAZINE'S 'FICTION BOOKS YOU CAN'T MISS IN 2022'******'Follow your heart and speak your truth. An interesting book club choice it would definitely initiate discussions on the culture wars and our relationship with the influencer while also highlighting the complexity of those fraught teenage years. And her career is booming: she's just hit three million followers, her new book Chaste has gone straight to the top of the bestseller lists and she's appearing at sell-out events.

She’s an oracle, telling them how to live their lives, how to be happy, how to find and honour their ‘truth’.Neuware - 'IDOL is fresh, glamorous, and surprising, taking an issue we all care about and with a deft twist, recalibrating our position. Samantha is shallow, selfish and spiteful and her friend, Lucy, doesn't have any personality to speak of. I am utterly bewildered by the amount of good reviews it received, and am struggling to figure out what O' Neill was trying to say with her story.
