Plausibility ⭐⭐⭐ The one rub I had with ‘The Botanist’ was the plausibility. Individually all the killings were believable but when you combine and look at the total picture, they start to feel inconceivable. Yes, someone might have a secret room that a killer could hide in. Yes, it might be possible to change someone’s prescription to administer poison but combine all the plot elements and it starts to feel this book was right on the edge of being a bit too far-fetched. In contrast however, the investigative work was convincing. You could imagine these highs and lows in any police investigation, and the way Poe and Tilly unravelled the plot also felt authentic. So mixed. The Killing Field– While having breakfast and debating how to spend the remainder of their holiday, Poe and Tilly are requested to head to a Cumbrian airfield once known as the killing field. Cut Short (Three short stories) – Tilly and Edgar, Poe’s English springer spaniel, enjoying a picnic at a nature reserve. When Edgar chases a rabbit, and Poe and Tilly chase after him, they stumble upon a twenty-year-old mystery, a mystery that couldn’t be solved until now . . . Carlisle-born M. W. Craven took up a probation officer role in Whitehaven in 1999. Seventeen years later, at the rank of assistant chief officer, he became a full-time author.

But typically, Poe has joined the dots too early and, in trying to save one victim, he unwittingly puts another person in grave danger. It’s like you’re on an out of control downhill express the further along you are the more the twists keep coming and they are brilliant! I love these characters and I love the tight and clever plotting of these books. I’m off to read the next one, Dead Ground, right now.

The Puppet Show (Washington Poe 1)

Kudos, Mr. Craven, for a great addition to the series. You won me over and I hope others will find their way to your Washington Poe (and other) series in the months to come! You get a serial killer of course and mystery - all the bells and whistles of a real mind bender. As I said you really don’t know how this is going to tie together… but it does beautifully. It is not handed to you on a silver platter either you are taken there on a journey. ☠️ While the series has been optioned for television, we've yet to see any casting notices, production updates, or air dates. Sadly, options are just that – they give a producer the OPTION to produce a show or renew the contract within a given timeline. They don't always turn into finished productions. As for how far the characters can go? That’s a good question. Poe has a personal arc he will have to solve at some point and Tilly will continue to grow, but not too much. In The Botanist, Poe might actually get to have a semblance of a love life, although as you might expect, it won’t be straightforward . . . And don’t worry, it will not, and never will, be with Tilly. They are extremely close but neither thinks of the other that way.

MW Craven is one of the hottest and most thrilling crime fiction authors around, his latest addition is stupendous, outrageously twisted, and such an exciting outing for our intrepid crime fighters, Washington Poe and the extraordinarily gifted data analyst, Tilly Bradshaw, of the National Crime Agency. It all begins with a baby shower being given for the none too happy and irritable pregnant DI Stephanie Flynn, a baby shower Poe had not wanted to attend, but intense pressure from Tilly meant he had no choice. The party comes to an end as Flynn gets a call that sends them racing to Cumbria. There has been the macabre discovery of three pairs of fingers in three different locations, two female and one male, with the strange #BSC6 left by the serial killer at each of the crime scenes. With this book, its quite official that MW Craven is my go-to author and this one was so meticulously and smartly done, he's now upgraded from my go-to author to AUTOBUY author. The 2023 CWA Daggers Shortlists Have Been Announced". Ian Fleming. 17 May 2023 . Retrieved 10 July 2023.

Black Summer (Washington Poe 2)

The Curator is one of the best thrillers I have ever read and in my opinion the best yet in the Washington Poe series. It is gripping, suspenseful, and certainly plays with your mind. It makes you think and there is most certainly a psychological element running the whole way through.

Nothing you’ve ever read will prepare you for the utterly unique Washington Poe.” – Keith Nixon, author of Dig Two Graves

The Curator (Washington Poe 3)

Reluctantly partnered with the brilliant, but socially awkward, civilian analyst, Tilly Bradshaw, the mismatched pair uncover a trail that only he is meant to see. The elusive killer has a plan and for some reason Poe is part of it. There are few things more pleasurable than reading the first book in a great series and realising you have more books to look forward to. Whether you're in a book drought or just looking for something new to add to your TBR (to be read) pile, you're sure to find some great contenders below. 7 Gritty British Crime Novel Series to Try This Summer Tim Sullivan's DS Cross Series The Dentist (2021) The story is scary, dark, nasty and gruesome and involves the dark web and what, if you are evil and twisted, you can find on there to plan a hideous and grotesque crime Un nuevo caso llama a las puertas de la Agencia Nacional contra el Crimen, tres personas han sido asesinadas y los agentes locales piden refuerzos. Nada es lo que parece en este caso complejo y complicado de resolver y cuando digo nada, es nada. Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw of the National Crime Agency, are called in to support a very strange investigation - three pairs of fingers have been discovered on three consecutive days in three locations over the Christmas holidays in Cumbria. At the scene of each crime, a piece of paper was found with #BSC6 written on them. Internet searches bring them no nearer to understanding exactly what this message means.
