The image on the right shows the same 18-month-old with a 5-year-old tester, who together max out the 80 lb. If you know you are going to be biking A LOT, then I’d highly recommend spending more to get these features.The good news is that the Bee does have a recessed helmet pocket so your child can comfortably rest their head (with helmet) against the back of the seat.
The Burley Bee has been a best-selling bike trailer for years and is Burley’s most basic single and double trailer. Padding on budget trailers is rare, and if it happens, it’s cheap and comes off easily which just ends up being a hassle. As previously mentioned, the Honey Bee (and all other Burley trailers) have a handlebar that folds over the top of the aluminum cage and adds some extra level of protection. You'll find that you can easily fold the trailer down to a compact size, with the 20" wheels able to be removed with just one quick button push - ideal for both storage and transportation.Products are tested to multiple x on key durability tests, exceeding both ASTM and EN trailer and stroller standards. It also has quick release pins holding everything together which need to be checked regularly for safety. We also prefer how the front cover of the Bee secures to the trailer with a velcro and hook system that actually stays in place. The lever that holds that bars into place when fully open was nearly impossible for me to snap into place. If, on the other hand, you’re simply doing the occasional weekend bike ride, the Burley Bee should be find for your needs. Your toddlers are going to have to be cool with snuggling up to their siblings, and probably getting a little tight and smooshed as they grow older. Budget Trailers: The Bee’s outer covering is far superior in quality and durability to the Allen, Schwinn, and InStep trailers. Burley trailers look gorgeous, pull super smooth, are incredibly easy to use, and feel solid and safe for literally your most precious cargo.
Other Budget Trailers: The Bee offers UV side windows, while the Allen S2, Schwinn trailers, and InStep trailers do not. Pretty much every other budget trailer is covered with a thin vinyl that does not instill confidence in durability. For Burley, those higher models come standard with a single swivel stroller wheel and also allow you to purchase conversion kits for a 4-wheel stroller or a jogging wheel.
There’s also a small mesh pocket that lays flat against the inside and is perfect for carrying a phone and keys.
