About this deal

It spends much of its time creating intellect devourers—brain-like creatures that can inhabit the skulls of humanoids and transform them into puppet-spies. Vrondiss brings back the enrage mechanic first seen on Ixalan, by stating on the card that whenever damage is dealt to them, they create a big dragon spirit token – the downside of course is that the dragon spirit sacrifices itself when it, in turn, does damage to anything else. I also thought a little more ramp and card draw would be useful so I included Seer’s Sundial, Tireless Provisioner, and Yavimaya Elder. I’m not entirely convinced since so much of the card’s effectiveness relies on your opponents being willing to destroy enchantments or artifacts between them thanks to a card that you cast. They’re extremely efficient, and it’s worth noting that any opening hand containing these cards can afford to start the game out a little slower.

The deck comes with a lot of dice-rolling cards that can cause Vrondiss to deal damage to itself to make tokens, but you can certainly dig up some more from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms.Out of the 400 possible outcomes from rolling two d20, only 196 of them end with both dice being fourteen or lower, meaning you actually have a 51% chance of getting a Brutal Hordechief activation for two less with Berserker's Frenzy.

Earth-Cult Elemental is so close to a vanilla creature that it should be a last resort, unless Vrondiss can provide enough value with the die roll.Nobody wants to be the person who takes one for the team, especially considering it's not as infuriating to fight against as Ruric Thar, the Unbowed. These are the cards I dropped in favour of these changes: Chameleon Colossus, Druid of Purification , Vengeful Ancestor , Wulfgar of Icewind Dale , Earth-Cult Elemental , Savage Ventmaw , Rile , Wild Endeavor , Decree of Savagery , Sword of Hours , Heirloom Blade and Indomitable Might .
