The other thing I don’t like about Nike’s lower-budget shoes is they cram the heel with foam for a high-drop experience. The tongue is comfortably padded and stayed in place well, on runs when the laces were tighter, and when wearing casually and a little looser.
It’s also a lot lighter than both the Vaporfly and Alphafly, which again points to the Streakfly’s role as a short distance shoe. However, people with wider feet probably won't be able to enjoy the comfort of the shoe because it runs too narrow!
From a distance, it looks similar to the Pegasus 37, with a deep sole, and slightly extended rear sole. so it should wear slowly, but where this may break down is in the upper if it’s manufactured poorly. On the first run, the cushioning under the midfoot and heel was impressive and felt soft without sapping energy. The finish was detailed and sleek, yet minimalist, but by far the most stand out thing for me was how breathable and lightweight they felt. It all adds up to a springy and speedy ride that only feels better the faster you run in the shoe, but the slightly strange sensation produced by the different foams, the plate and the pods might not suit every runner.
The Downshifter 11 is comfortable on the roads, at the gym, and even just as an around-town sneaker. The Downshifter 10 is a modern looking running shoe that will suit most tastes, requirements and budgets. Alternatively, if you’re a neutral runner, looking to upgrade on your Downshifter 10 or older model, this shoe is an almost exact copy, with a few functional and aesthetic improvements I’m sure you’ll love.
This design gave good tread, smooth heel-to-toe transitions, and was flexible enough to remain comfortable. One feature missing is a full length carbon plate, with the Streakfly instead having a small Pebax plate at the midfoot to add a little stability to the soft foam and speed your transition onto your forefoot. These shoes will have sufficient cushioning for short strings on the treadmill while also being better-suited to lifting than normal running shoes. By that, we mean that there isn’t one shoe that offers the perfect blend of comfort and speed that you can use for all your training and racing.
The Pegasus Trail 3 has a full-length React midsole, which offers a high level of comfort while still being stable enough for runs on uneven ground, and there’s extra protection around the front of the shoe to stop stray roots or stones from smashing your toes and ruining your run. If you need a breathable, lightweight daily shoe for all types of light training this could be a great choice. Costs are kept down with a minimalist design and low cost materials on the upper, and unnamed foam in the sole.
Sitting between the Streak racing flat and the Vaporfly, the Streakfly is a new kind of racing shoe for Nike. But the good news is that you can get this Nike shoe in wide and extra-wide options to get a better fit. The key difference with the road shoe is the outsole, which is designed to mimic a mountain bike tyre and does a great job of finding grip on harder trails, even in the rain. The large stack of React foam protects you from the impact of the pavements you pound, while a rocker moves you from heel to toe quickly and smoothly.
The midsole on the Downshifter 12 feels soft but it has enough stiffness to create a stable platform to rely on.It’s also a great choice simply as a friendly and very comfortable sneaker, to wear for everyday life. All that adds up to quite a bulky and odd-feeling shoe, but it’s also an undeniably fast one, despite the weight. We would rank the shoe's outsole rubber as average in terms of durability based on two factors: its thickness and density. Neutral runners can also enjoy using the shoe – a little extra stability is no bad thing, especially when racking up a lot of miles when training for long events like the marathon. The new outer sole footwrap was one of my favorite parts of the shoe, adding to the structure of the TPU cage to keep the foot secure.
