A new Jurassic World board game is stomping our way in the not so distant future, and Jurassic World: The Legacy of Isla Nublar will arrive sometime next year. Fallen Kingdom Expansion for Jurassic World Miniature Game™, adds new heroes to the game: Claire, Owen and Blue.

Like other Legacy games, this can make remembering the rules and where you’re at in the story between sessions difficult, but Isla Nublar does a few clever things to help keep you on track. For its first legacy game, Funko Games really swung for the fences here, and I have to appreciate the love and effort that went into this, even if I prefer other games in the genre. On paper that might sound derivative, but a clever system of semi-random event cards makes it so that you’re never quite sure what to expect next. Rolling is how all actions are completed; the character sheets show the number of dice rolled by each character to attempt a task.Each miniature will be able to take part in your friendly or competitive confrontations in the featured 3 independent scenarios. While fewers players get more moves to make each turn, I found that more players could simply spread out further and deal with everything it throws at you better.

Once again it's easier to manage all these things with more players, but whoever is tasked with sorting boxes in the visitor center while the others run around the island herding dinos is going to feel like they got the short stick. The transformation the island goes through from adventure to adventure is quite remarkable, and even more impressive, it’s entirely unique to your group. When measuring if a player is successful in their chosen task, Jurassic World is all about the dice. The more dinosaurs the park contains, the greater the chance of break outs with gruesome consequences. Player characters can be upgraded between games or scarred by their injuries — not killed necessarily, but effectively damaged in a way that makes you less likely to want to play them in the future.Early on, you’ll start adding structures, roads, and fences to the island, organizing it in a way that’s safe for your dinosaurs, your staff, and eventually, your guests. The PS1 game was actually the moment we both decided gaming was going to be a big part of our lives.
