About this deal

Skarsgard is no novice when it comes to the makeup chair. His depiction of IT the Clown will go down as one of the most visually frightening looks of the decade. That being said, Eggers believes that this look may be Skarsgard’s best look yet. He had the following to say about it: Casting Old Detroit, a newly filmed interview with casting director Julie Selzer on how the film's ensemble cast was assembled In the near future, the city of Detroit is in financial ruin and the streets are overrun with violent crime. Criminals control neighborhoods, selling drugs, robbing stores, and violating innocent people walking home. And they do it without fear of the police since they're at the point of bankruptcy. In a desperate measure to save the city, the mayor signed a deal with major conglomerate Omni Consumer Products (OCP), allowing the corporation complete authority of the department. It's the first step in an effort by the company to transform a dystopia into an autonomous, utopic corporate city-state called "Delta City." But first, OCP must clean up the streets to attract other businesses and low-wage workers, which means designing some kind of super cop with the latest technological advancements. Composing RoboCop, a new tribute to composer Basil Poledouris featuring film music experts Jeff Bond, Lukas Kendall, Daniel Schweiger and Robert Townson

Deleted Scenes (SD, 3 min) — Four exorcised scenes that don't add much to the story but interesting to watch nonetheless. The most irritating facet of the prototypical American vigilante thriller, especially of the ’70s and ’80s, is its aura of macho self-pity. When middle-class white men kill in these films, it’s because they have no other choice in the face of crime that’s unpunished by liberal politicians. (Such a theme can’t be laughed off as a trope, as it continues to be a selling point for carny politicians even as the nation’s crime rate drops.) In RoboCop, Verhoeven and screenwriters Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner turn this cliché on its head, as the crime-ridden hellscape of future Detroit is controlled by capitalist fascists who run amok under the implicit protection of Reaganomics. Detroit’s government has been subsumed by OCP (which stands, hilariously generically, for Omni Consumer Products), a company with ties to the military that has recently taken control of the police department and is systematically crushing police unions while rendering human cops beside the point with new weaponry.

RoboProps, a newly filmed tour of super-fan Julien Dumont's collection of original props and memorabilia I won’t run down the rest of the extras found on both discs. You can revisit my earlier review to see everything, since Arrow didn’t commission anything new for this set. Suffice it to say that there’s an enormous amount of bonus content found here, with a big batch of new extras that were created for the 2019 release along with a lot of legacy content that was ported over too. RoboCop was shot by director of photography Jost Vocano on 35 mm film using Arriflex 35 BL cameras and Zeiss Super Speed lenses, finished photochemically, and presented in the theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Arrow Video brings RoboCop to Ultra HD in a Limited Edition release utilizing the same 4K master as before, which itself was sourced from a 4K restoration of the original camera negative performed by MGM in 2013 with the approval of Paul Verhoeven, executive producer Jon Davison, and co-writer/co-producer Ed Neumeier. The Director’s Cut comes from the same master, but the lower generation materials used to complete it are still present as the original negative trims are now considered lost. However, Arrow Video was able to a new 4K scan of these trims for this release. For this UHD edition, Arrow Video ports over the same outstanding collection of supplements as their 2019 Blu-ray release and spread across both UHD discs. Fans will be pleased to hear that Nosferatu will also be featuring an amazing list of talent to engage with. Stars like Emma Corrin ( A Murder at the End of the World), Aaron Taylor-Johnson ( Nocturnal Animals), and Nicholas Hoult ( The Menu) will be joining the fray alongside Willem Dafoe and Bill Skarsgard in Nosferatu.Original lossless stereo and four-channel mixes plus DTS-HD MA 5.1 and Dolby Atmos surround sound options Shooting RoboCop (SD, 8 min) — The original 1987 EPK promo with cast & crew interviews and lots of BTS footage. We get the best of both worlds. Onboard computer assisted memory and a lifetime of on the street law enforcement programming.

Limited edition collectors' booklet featuring new writing on the film by Omar Ahmed, Christopher Griffiths and Henry Blyth The Boardroom (SD, 6 min) — With commentary by animator Phil Tippett, this is a storyboard comparison of the scene that introduces ED-209's grand entrance into the OCP boardroom. But a great director will only get you so far and Robert is keenly aware of this. The casting in each of his films has brought to light some of the greatest performers Hollywood has at their disposal. His previous films have featured stars such as Anya Taylor-Joy ( The Witch), Alexander Skarsgard ( The Northman), and the amazing Willem Dafoe ( The Lighthouse). These films are all enhanced greatly by these casting choices. Nosferatu

At the moment, the filmmakers are still holding tightly to details about the film. But fans are able to get a first look at Nicholas Hoult as Thomas Hutter today. This image, provided by Empire Magazine, doesn’t off up much. But it does allow fans to begin salivating over what this film may hold in store for us. It is also an accurate depiction of how we would all look seeing Bill Skarsgard in full on Nosferatu makeup. Nosferatu

RoboCop: Creating a Legend (SD, 21 min) — An amusing retrospective with fairly recent interviews on the production, Weller's performance, the making of the metallic suit and the challenges experienced by the filmmakers. Lastly, additional film elements of the TV Cut version supplied by MGM were scanned at EFILM and graded in 2K at R3Store Studios and are included Archive commentary by director Paul Verhoeven, executive producer Jon Davison and co-writer Ed Neumeier (originally recorded for the Theatrical Cut and re-edited in 2014 for the Director's Cut) Flesh and Steel (SD, 37 min) — A straightforward making-of doc with interviews of the filmmakers, talking on the plot's origins, praising Verhoeven, the casting, special effects, cinematography, the musical score and touching on various themes within the story.
