About this deal

If your Acer gets too much wind or sun (especially in the afternoon) and not enough water, it can get scorched leaves - variegated varieties and those with finely cut leaves are the most vulnerable to this. Perfect for both new and established plants, blooming Fast Acer Feed is an organic granular feed combining the nutrients essential for the health growth of Japanese Maples.

In the garden, dig a hole slightly large than the root-ball of the Acer, fork over the base of the pit and apply 30-60g to the bottom of the planting hole, depending on the size of the Acer. Once planted, add a handful of feed and work into the top soil Container plants: (Plant at any time of year in suitable soil conditions). As used by multi-award winning nurseries, M183 formula plant feeds help produce show-winning plants. In pots : Acer feed can be mixed with compost when repotting or worked into the surface of existing pots as an annual top-dressing. It’s not essential to prune your Acer tree, but if you do want to do some trimming to improve its shape or restrict its size, it’s important to do this only when the tree is dormant from November to January - if pruning is done at any other time of year when the tree is in active growth, it can bleed sap and become infected. If you’ve got vine weevils you’ll see little c-shaped white grubs about 10mm long with brown heads amongst the soil and notches in the leaf margins, perhaps accompanied by the culprits - 9mm black beetles with a yellow mark on the wing cases.

Vitax Limited is a fourth generation family-owned business with roots laid down long before the modern gardening industry as it is known today even existed. Variegated Acers (those with multicoloured leaves including Shirazz and Drummondii) are particularly vulnerable to leaf scorch and need to be grown out of the sun. Fork over the base of the pit and apply 30-60g to bottom of planting hole depending on the size of Acer.An inorganic granular fertiliser like Miracle Gro or Growmore works better in pots as they're heat and moisture activated so they're more effective in the confines of a pot. The Vitax Acer Japanese Maple Feed is made up of 3 major plant foods, nitrogen, phosphate and potash, all 3 of these with natural magnesium and trace elements to give natural and healthy leaf growth. For best results, apply during planting to get new plants off to the best possible start and reapply as a top dressing in spring.

Agapanthus Firework 9cm did not need loving care more like emergency room care, these were very poorly, had already had stems that had been cut of at the at the middle of the centre of the leaves most of which were yellow, some yellow and brown and droopy, one could not be saved the other two one has about 3 leaves and the third may be saved by my aldi cheap greenhouse and lots of care and verbal gentle encouragement. If your Acer is in a pot you’ll have to water more often - in hot weather this can be as much as twice a day to make sure the soil doesn’t dry out.

New Acers Bare-root plants: (Plant between October-March when ground is not frozen or water-logged). With 40 years experience in the horticultural industry, where better to obtain gardening advice than from Cowell's, the family garden centre. Check the soil regularly - if it’s drying out too quickly and you’re having to water more than twice a week, you should move it to a more shaded spot.

You can prevent leaf scorch by planting (or positioning your pot) in a sheltered spot out of direct sunlight where the tree will get some dappled shade. Water your Acer regularly for the first year after planting, to encourage the tree to establish a good root system - this is particularly important if you plant in spring or summer. In a pot I'd avoid any organic fertiliser as it would perform better in the ground where you have the microorganisms to break them down properly.
