Please contact us right away if you have any concerns about any aspect of the scheme or the arrangements with your Buddy.Sometimes local cycle hubs will have bikes you can borrow to practice with and some councils offer bikes on short loan schemes to try out. If you’re not at all comfortable riding on quiet roads, then we suggest you go to your local council for free cycle training before you start with Cycle Buddies. Our charity, Stay Up Late, started Gig Buddies in Sussex in 2013 and since then we’ve supported organisations across the UK and in Australia to run their own versions of the project under licence and be part of the community of people enabling people with learning disabilities to Stay Up Late! Buddy has been staged in more than 17 countries, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, UK and USA.

The volunteers in the network support each other with knowledge and information from their own experience and from delivering other community services. After a difficult start at Decca Records in Nashville, they sign a contract with up-and-coming, innovative record producer Norman Petty who is based in Clovis, New Mexico. As a Buddy Mentee on the scheme, you will be paired with a King’s student in an older year with whom you share common interests, experiences, and courses where possible. It’s about enabling people with learning disabilities to have people in their lives who aren’t paid to be there.
