About this deal

The afternoon part of the training focuses on the Cued Articulation Approach which can be used within settings and classrooms to support children presenting with speech sound difficulties. Jane Passy devised the cues while working as a Speech Pathologist with a group of children with severe speech and language problems. The previously separate titles Cued Articulation and Cued Vowels are now combined and updated, with this edition covering consonants, vowels, demonstrative images and full colour coding throughout. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Each video in set one has the letter sound through cued articulation then letter name through finger spelling and then a word in pictures and signed that begins with that letter.

Each of the 49 sounds (phonemes) which make up the English Phonological System has a separate hand sign. It is a full-colour comprehensive description of Jane Passy's methods for teaching speech and language-challenged children and adults how to make the sounds required for articulate speech.Children often miss out some of the consonants in the middle of longer words, so you can sign the ones they miss out. The study measured the effect of the intervention on children’s phonics knowledge, word-reading ability and attitudes towards learning. Findings lend support to the effectiveness of multisensory phonics methods, particularly when used to support children who are experiencing difficulties with reading.

Below is a list of the cued articulation actions which accompany the letters of the alphabet they will be taught. Its potential and practicality is widespread and utilised by speech pathologists, speech and language therapists, remedial and reading recovery teachers who find the approach helpful in showing phonemegrapheme relationships; and primary teachers who use it in the classroom to teach children the sounds of speech. When children are first attempting to sound out and blend words or trying to listen for the sounds in words, Cued Articulation can help. In their daily Phonics lessons, they learn to link a sound (phoneme) with its written letter (grapheme). It will be full colour and be a comprehensive description of Jane Passy's methods for teaching speech and language-challenged children and adults how to make the sounds required for articulate speech.Hampshire schools should submit this online booking request to book a place, remembering to include the contact name and SAP user-id of the finance/business officer. It is useful for speech pathologists, speech and language therapists, remedial and recovery teachers and primary teachers in the classroom. So we support the use of phonics with a visual cue that cues our children to our lips, so while they are listening they are watching how these sounds are formed at the mouth and supporting the development of their lip reading skills as well as their phonics. Both ‘p’ and ‘b’ are made in the same way using the lips, the only difference between them is the voicing.

Some children also need to place their other hand on their throat so that they feel the difference in their voice boxes too. Each of the 49 sounds (phonemes) that make up the English phonological system has a separate hand sign - related to where and how, in the mouth, the sound is made.We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. This will allow SfYC to raise an Internal Supplier Request for the school to complete and make payment. Originally devised to help severely speech and language handicapped children to see a sound and hear a letter by the use of easy and logical hand cues, the Cued Articulation system has, over the last three decades, proved an invaluable teaching tool. The hand gestures used in Cued Articulation show the children what their body is doing and helps them to learn to make the sounds correctly. To use CA in its most simple form, the practitioner only needs knowledge of the system, 12 coloured pencils and enthusiasm.

NON-HAMPSHIRE, OUT OF COUNTY SCHOOLS AND SETTINGS – All schools, settings and other organisations outside of Hampshire will be charged a 15% surcharge on top of the standard cost. For every sound we make, our vocal chords, palate, tongue, teeth and lips all combine making different movements for every individual sound or phoneme. The empirical paper examines the effectiveness of Cued Articulation as a method to enhance whole-class phonics teaching. For us it is essential to explore phonics through listening and visual support, this ensures that the children understand that each letter has a name and a sound, and that we can listen for the sounds in words.

This book, with accompanying cards, is a wonderful aid in teaching the articulation of consonant and vowel sounds of English.
