About this deal

The harness on the F-Stop Tilopa 50L is thickly padded and designed for hauling heavy weights during long days in the backcountry. In fact, the Tilopa ranks highly on my all-time list of the most comfortable bags I have hiked with.

The top of the bag is spacious and is great for carrying smaller bits and bobs, especially since it has additional mesh-lined pockets for small accessories / keys / compass / mobile phone. You will also have all-day wearable comfort provided by an internal aluminum frame and adjustable support system. If you’re getting your very first F-Stop bag, bundles are available that include an ICU(s), rain cover and straps, which might be the right choice for you. Thus, if you have large lenses like a 600mm that need the length of the XL ICU, this decision has been made for you.

The F-Stop Tilopa is not only a bag that is made with the hardcore outdoorsman in mind, it’s also made to be an all-around great travel bag. Still, it is not a reason to disregard this pack, as replacing the buckles with an off-the-shelf plastic one is relatively trivial. The main gripe is that the foam dividers are nothing more than a rectangle foam box shoved into a well defined pack. Beneath the vertical zippered side pockets is a diagonal zipper that gives you another pocket option on each side of the bag.Choose this option if you want to carry large super-telephoto lenses like a 600mm or 800mm, or if you’re going to maximize the available protective space in the bag. The large and XL ICUs make perfect companions for the Tilopa and do a nice job of filling out the main compartment while leaving enough space in the side pockets for spare gear, and a few layers of clothing.

organizational features include a back panel with magnetic closures for memory cards and additional zippered pockets for easy access to essential components such as batteries and cables, as well as a dedicated laptop pocket. In terms of comfort, I was more than happy with the Ajna on all-day hikes with the Medium Slope ICU holding a camera and four lenses, plus all the usual non-photographic gear such as a couple of litres of water, food and some layers. I don’t want to repeat my original review but for those unfamiliar with f-Stop bags, here is a quick overview of the system. Perhaps your view will differ on this point, but I would have preferred a regular heavy-duty plastic buckle on the waist strap. The internal padded computer sleeve can fit a laptop up to 18”; there are also two smaller pockets (not padded) on the side that I’ve used to throw in hard drives. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. F-Stop have not cut costs with the materials use in these bags, the zips and buckles are all really high quality and have put up with some major abuse so far, from freezing temperatures to hot sandy conditions and the salty sea! The design of the fstop bags, using ICU system is brilliant and with this in mind makes it many bags in one.
