About this deal

The play ended too abruptly, for me, but again, you can simply see the phenomenal show to see what else happens in Fleabag’s life. The show is adapted from Waller-Bridge's 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe one-woman play of the same name which won a Fringe First Award. I loved the development of the relationships between Fleabag, her sister, Claire, and stepmother, Godmother.

What makes Fleabag unforgettably exceptional and wonderfully painful is how it does not brush off female angst, which it vividly captures, as mere mood swings nor as a “millennial, post-hysteria syndrome. It has all the wit, heart and fourth-walling of the series and it really felt as if you were a fly on the wall, watching the series be filmed, rather than reading the book on your couch covered in Belvita crumbs (just me? It received widespread acclaim from critics, particularly for its writing, acting, and the uniqueness and personality of the title character.

In 2016 it was turned into a wildly successful and ‘utterly riveting’ ( Guardian) BBC television series. But it's worth making an exception for Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag: The Scriptures, naughtily bound to look like an old Bible. Now recognized as one of todays most essential voices, she delivers powerful insights into her now-iconic protagonist: the hilarious, emotionally damaged, sexually unapologetic woman who can make viewers laugh, cry, and cringe in a single scene.

Mary McNamara of the Los Angeles Times commended its unpredictability, acting, and "clear eye for truth that often becomes, like all good comedy, quite devastating".
