In a few months him and his friends will part ways and go to separate universities (Ralf whose passion is geology plans to study in England). I do not agree with Stephen King's assessment that this is Koryta's best book ever, but it sure is big fun. Lyman Rankin is a 12 year old boy who is a victim of an alcoholic father and stumbles into the same mystery. From the New York Times bestselling author of Those Who Wish Me The murder of several politicians at sea has shattering implications for a local lobsterman and a young boy in this action-packed thriller.
Michael's previous work ranges from a trio of supernatural novels--So Cold the River, The Cypress House, and The Ridge, which were all named New York Times notable books of the year and earned starred reviews from Publishers Weekly--to stand-alone crime novels such as The Prophet (A New York Times bestseller) and Envy the Night (selected as a Reader's Digest condensed book), to a series of award-winning novels featuring private investigator Lincoln Perry--Tonight I Said Goodbye, Sorrow's Anthem, A Welcome Grave, and The Silent Hour.Covering the tumultuous period of summer-winter of 1989 in West Berlin, Ben Fergusson’s new novel centres on 18-year-old Ralf, his family and friends, and Oz, a part-time informant for the authorities who has been spying on the apartment block where Ralf’s family live. Ralf's group of friends was also solidly depicted and we get to see how his relationship with each one of his friends differs.
Readers are led to believe that Israel is an honest man despite his flawed past, so rooting for him comes easy, but just in case readers need more incentive, Michael Koryta weaves in the story of Lyman Rankin. His latest novel, An Honest Man, is a prime example—easily one of the best in his long string of successful crime novels. Once again, Michael Koryta has created a cast of characters who are unforgettable and who each play a pivotal role in a story that seems to have varying plot lines but end up interacting in unexpected ways. One thing I can assure is the good writing in this novel, the setting in Berlin and its theme is something new to me.
