About this deal

So when testing the Nikon 70-200mm f/4G VR, I wanted to see how well the TC-20E III would couple with the lens when it comes to sharpness, autofocus speed and accuracy. For what I shoot, f/4 is plenty fast, but 850 gr vs 1540 gr can make quite a difference after 3-4 hours of carrying a camera bag around.

We're hoping to review this lens in early 2013, but until then, here's a preview real-world samples gallery. I also like how a lens focuses better under many conditions and the increased brightness of the viewfinder with the gaping 2. This classic Tele zoom has been a favourite for all kind of photographers, be they PJ, sport, nature, travel or landscape shooters. sibling, but also appears to have slightly more effective VR, and best of all, focuses closer to a minimum of 1m at all focal lengths, and does not exhibit focus breathing: 200mm at 1m is really 200mm.

Although this can't do anything about subject movement, it should greatly expand the usability of the lens in marginal lighting conditions. For most, photography is a weekend hobby that doesn't warrant the additional quality possible with a tripod - so why bother including a tripod collar when most won't really need it. It suffers from both barrel and pincushion distortion at short and long focal lengths and pincushion distortion is most pronounced at 200mm. The image from the Nikon 70-200/4 VR gets larger as focused more closely, at all focal length settings. So, after examining them in detail, what are the main differences between the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/4G ED VR and the AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.

Hence, at close distances, the 70-200mm f/4G is actually a better lens to use for subject isolation. I expected the lens to suffer like my Nikon 200-400mm f/4G VR does when using it with the TC-17E II, but it certainly did better. When testing out the Nikon 70-200mm f/4G VR, I found that it renders colors the same way the Nikon 70-200mm f/2. When used on a DX camera, it gives angles of view similar to what a 105-300mm lens gives when used on an FX or 35mm camera. One of the few lenses in the Canon system I’ve long been jealous of is their 70-200/4 IS (in addition to the 17TSE).Simply put, the f/4 lens is easier to handhold well (especially if you don’t put the optional tripod collar on), so I think some of the “improvement” that many claim over the f/2. The latter does not have VR, but if you are into birding, you will be shooting at 1/1000 and higher shutter speeds most of the time anyway and you want VR turned off at such high shutter speeds. In the full images linked in my sharpness test above, you can clearly how the AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/2. Nikon has been exclusively using this coating technology on higher-end lenses and if you compare some of the recent lenses with their older counterparts that do not have it, you will probably notice the difference in color rendition as well.

As a landscape and Fine Art photographer, I travel a lot and do a lot of walking, trekking and hiking to get where I need to be, carrying all my equipment. lens you’ll immediately be struck by how just trimming one stop from the aperture made this new lens clearly smaller and lighter (see below). Actually, being an Ape With A Camera, the OP presumably does not have much linguistic skill and was actually saying that the lens looked as good as a banana, in other words very good indeed. Other lenses cheat and shorten their effective focal lengths when focusing closely; this lens gets down to 1 meter (3. I ask that you *please* "spoon feed" me the better (smoother) looking/textured background regardless of how isolated the subject looks.Longitudinal chromatic aberration / LoCA (which is the effect of color fringing in front of and behind the focused area) is also handled well at large apertures. The AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/4G ED VR improves its performance in the corners a little bit, but its corners never get quite as sharp as the excellent centre-frame at any focal length. The Nikon TC-14E II has always been my most favorite teleconverter and it is a must-have for any photographer that wants to expand the range of telephoto lenses. Why don’t you share it with your friends, or drop me a comment to let me know how you feel about this? ED VR II vs AF-S Nikkor 70-200mm f/4G ED VR compared review, I used the very uninspiring building across the street from where I live as a test scene.
