About this deal

I really liked the way the author wrote the then/now portions of the book and I absolutely adored Maddie’s character.

The exceptional banter in just the right places made me yearn for more, the secondary characters engaged me and appropriately shifted the story, distracting me from what was the main characters’ bearings; but at the same time, is intertwined. Some years later, the start of the present-day part of the book, we meet Kennedy, a woman making a living as a supermarket manager, and a single mother to a five-year-old little girl named Madeline, or Maddie for short.

He knew he was in no condition to take care of his family and that he’d be poison for them, so he didn’t even dare to try it until he was sure he’d stay clean. If you like Hollywood scandal, superheroes, complex characters, and a story full of heart, then look no further. The ending was very wholesome and yes, I admit it, quite a bit kitschy too, but it was a romance so DUH! No, but he knew that she didn’t want Maddie to live with an addict and so he accepted her wishes to stay away from them. It's simplicity is what makes it such a complex story in a manner because we are left there with such intricately damaged and loving characters and we see them solve what they need to.

I would just like to state now, if you haven't already realized - this whole review will me gushing and raving and overall just loving this book. She always put her daughter first, and she wanted to give her daughter the best possible life available. he doesn’t want to leave Kennedy behind though, so he asks her to go with him, and she ends up accompanying him on this journey. She skillfully navigates the reader through a clever and emotional plot, using dual points of view and throwing in quite a few surprises along the way. You know the usual scenarios wherein the main characters go back and forth with all the blaming and the pushing and pulling when it comes to their relationship?

I didn't even get all that emotional, and I think it was because I was waiting for this connection to the characters or a connection to their connection to each other, but I wasn't feeling it. Ghosted is told in split present-day first-person alternating chapters between the two lead characters – Kennedy and Jonathan – and second-person chapters detailing their past. It felt like it was just based on sex in both the past and the present, and that the deep connection parts were skimmed over or just vague. Raised an Army brat, she had a mobile childhood (affording her the opportunity to meet people from many different backgrounds) that she would not trade for anything. I also loved the fact that this story was a "slow burn", where the hero wasn't just forgiven without some hardcore groveling. However, six years of heartache and disappointment have changed the young woman he once knew, making her distrustful of his promises and fearful of his love. Kennedy is a single mother and Jonathan is a movie star and except of their daughter they don’t seem to have anything in common.
