About this deal

Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. Polly Crosby tells ReadingZone about her novel, This Tale is Forbidden (Scholastic), a fractured fairy tale set in a dystopian world. Agent 9: Flood-a-geddon is the start of a new graphic novel series about Agent 9, a cat-like character who has incredible super-spy skills but who dives into missions without thinking things through, resulting in hilarious mishaps and inevitable 'I-told-you-so's' from Agent 9's sidekick, FIN, a mechanical flying fish. When James Burks was little, there was only one thing that he wanted to be when he grew up; a light-saber-wielding, truck-driving space pirate with a monkey for a first mate.

When super villain King Crab overwhelms the super spy service, there’s nobody but Agent9 to step into the breach. Trainee spy Agent 9 (a sharp-suited tabby cat) has a tendency to use extreme measures when fighting crime for top-secret organisation S4. With a blend of thrilling chase scenes and a generous helping of humour, this book will race off the shelves in any classroom book corner or library. If you're looking for something challenging and thought-provoking you won’t get it here, but if your looking for something that is just plain fun with likable characters and goofy scenarios, you’ll for sure have a blast reading about Agent 9’s ventures just like I did when I started reading from page one. This secret spy is forced back into the game when supervillain King Crab has captured all the agent's. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. Although it's standard graphic novel fare, Agent 9 is still sure to be a hit with the MG graphic novel crowd.

Oh, and most reviews have the lead as a female, because yes there is no gender in this, although I can't help but feel some got confused about the word 'feline'. Full of bombastic action and adventure that will make every child laugh out loud, plus a fantastic cast of spies and villains. At the start of Flood-a-geddon, Agent 9's very role as a super spy is under threat due to all the previous mission mishaps. It seems that whenever there’s an obstacle, they’ll knock it down, even if they’ve not tested it through first!

The serious ecological message of melting ice caps is nicely conveyed amidst the madcap adventure and James Bond-style gadget action.

James Burks has managed to capture the nature of those who are constantly on the go, making impulsive decisions and striving for the top spots.Join our community to get personalised book suggestions, extracts straight to your inbox, 10% off RRPs, and to change children’s lives. But before O can assign them a new mission, he and all the other ‘super-silly spy agents’ are kidnapped by supervillain King Crab. I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly!
