We’ve been fans of David Shrigley’s work forever, so we were beyond stoked when he walked into our tiny Hand in Hand brewpub in Brighton a few years ago. The white area is bare paper, around which the artist has filled in the contours of the car and the elephant with black ink, applied with a brush. David Shrigley (1968) is best known for his distinctive drawing style and works that make satirical comments on everyday situations and human interactions. If you've missed out on this historical moment though, worry not, because, at Third Drawer Down, you can get your own personal 'Thumbs Up' for your home. Like the musings of a very wise child displaying the wit and humor of a seasoned observer of the adult world, his illustrations feature crossed-out words, scribbled, uneven lines, and darkly funny aphorisms about the world.
These posters were first made in collaboration with Arken Museum, Ishøj, Denmark, on the occasion of the exhibition Animals in Art in 2020.
David Shrigley has had solo exhibitions in museum worldwide and his works are found in prominent collections, including Museum of Modern Art (New York), Tate Britain (London), the National Gallery of Denmark (Copenhagen), amongst many others. Much of the original work by this artist or collective was created during the 21st century and contemporary and is mostly associated with the contemporary style. David Shrigley's artwork can be seen through different types of media, such as paintings, prints, sculptures, photography amongst others.
